Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Backend Developer with a strong background in healthcare technology and NHS-related projects. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in FastAPI (or similar Python frameworks), FHIR standards, and EMR integration strategies. You will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable, secure, and standards-compliant backend systems that power healthcare applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and maintain

  RESTful APIs

  aligned with healthcare data standards (FHIR R4 UK, SNOMED CT).
• Integrate backend services with

  MIG connectors

  and EMR systems.
• Implement

  FHIR mapping tools/libraries

  and ensure compliance with NHS data models.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers to support

  Material UI–based applications

  and manage smooth frontend-backend integration.
• Implement

  progressive loading strategies

  , caching mechanisms, and data staleness indicators for optimal performance.
• Build

  asynchronous data aggregation pipelines

  for healthcare applications.
• Develop and enforce

  purpose-based access controls

  , including role mapping and data suppression strategies.
• Work with

  AWS services

  (e.g., Secrets Manager) for secure application deployment.
• Collaborate within a

  mono-repo architecture

  using CI/CD pipelines and containerized environments (Docker).
• Support

  authentication mechanisms

  like CIS2, Optum Healthcare One, and other pluggable identity solutions.
• Contribute to

  Agile delivery

  using Rally or similar project management tools.
• Partner with cross-functional teams (frontend, data, and integration) to ensure seamless end-to-end solutions.

Required Skills & Experience

• 6+ years of backend development experience.
• Prior experience in

  healthcare/NHS-related projects

  .
• Strong expertise in

  Python-based web frameworks

  (FastAPI preferred).
• Hands-on experience with

  FHIR R4 UK

  SNOMED CT

  , and healthcare interoperability standards.
• Knowledge of
