Asst. Manager / Dy. Manager - Heavy Haulage || Freight Forwarding

The Employee in Heavy Haulage, will support in overseeing all operations related to the movement of oversized and heavy cargo. This role ensures the efficient, safe, and compliant execution of transport services, managing daily activities, supervising staff, and optimizing resource allocation to meet client demands and company objectives.

Role & responsibilities

Operational Management:

• Fleet and Resource Management:

  Coordinate with drivers and internal teams, manage the scheduling of vehicles and personnel, and ensure optimal utilization of the heavy haulage fleet and equipment.

• Compliance and Safety:

  Ensure strict adherence to all local, state, and federal transportation regulations, including health and safety (EHS) standards for heavy cargo movement. Promote a strong safety culture within the team.

• Documentation and Reporting:

  Prepare, verify, and maintain all necessary shipment documentation, permits, and reports. Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and provide regular operational reports to senior management.

• Client and Vendor Coordination:

  Act as a key point of contact for clients, addressing inquiries and resolving issues related to the transportation of their goods. Coordinate with vendors and service providers (e.g., for permits, specialized equipment).

• Team Leadership and Training:

  Supervise, mentor, and train transport staff and drivers. Assist in performance evaluations and fostering a collaborative work environment.

• Cost Control and Efficiency:

  Monitor transportation costs and expenditures, identify areas for cost-saving, and implement strategies to optimize existing logistics processes and improve overall efficiency.

• Problem-Solving:

  Promptly address and resolve any operational issues, delays, or emergencies that arise during shifts.

Required Qualifications and Skills

• Experience:

  Proven experience (minimum 3-5 years) in transport, logistics, or supply chain operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or assistant managerial role, preferably within heavy haulage or a related field.

• Education:

  A bachelor's degree or diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field (preferred).

• Technical Skills:

• Strong knowledge of heavy haulage transport procedures, including routing, scheduling, and permitting requirements.
• Proficiency in transport management systems (TMS) and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
• Familiarity with relevant health, safety & compliance regulations .

• Soft Skills:

• Proven leadership and team management abilities.
• Strong problem-solving and critical thinking capabilities.
• Excellent communication (verbal and written) and interpersonal skills.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Negotiation skills for managing contracts with vendors and clients.
• The ability to perform some physical tasks, such as inspecting equipment or overseeing loading/unloading, may also be required considering the operational requirements.
