Associate Vice President - Lead Acid Plant

Purpose/Objective

To lead the operation, maintenance, and project execution of Sulphuric Acid Plants within the Copper Smelting Complex, ensuring optimal performance, environmental compliance, and integration with upstream and downstream processes. The role is critical for managing plant reliability, emissions control, and supporting production targets.

Key Responsibilities of Role

Operations & Performance: - Ensure safe, efficient, and continuous operation of Sulphuric Acid Plants (DCDA or equivalent technology). - Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as conversion efficiency, SO emissions, steam generation, and acid quality. - Optimize process parameters to improve yield and reduce energy consumption. Maintenance & Reliability: - Plan and execute preventive and predictive maintenance schedules. - Lead root cause analysis for equipment failures and implement corrective actions. - Coordinate with maintenance teams for turnaround planning and execution. Project & Expansion Support: - Support design, commissioning, and expansion of acid plants and associated utilities. - Collaborate with project teams for equipment selection, layout planning, and vendor evaluation. - Ensure smooth integration of acid plants with smelter off-gas systems and steam networks. Safety, Environment & Compliance: - Ensure compliance with environmental norms related to SO, acid mist, and effluent discharge. - Implement and monitor safety protocols, HAZOP studies, and emergency response plans. - Liaise with regulatory bodies for audits, permits, and reporting.

Qualifications and Experience

Education: B.E./B.Tech in Chemical / Mechanical / Metallurgical Engineering. (Specialization in Process Engineering or Environmental Engineering is a plus.) Experience: - Minimum 15 years of experience in operation and maintenance of Sulphuric Acid Plants. - At least 5 years in a leadership role within a copper or non-ferrous metallurgical complex. - Experience with DCDA technology, tail gas treatment, and steam recovery systems is highly desirable.
