Assistant General Manager Production
Location: Bhiwadi, Rajasthan Reporting To: Plant Head – Bhiwadi
Role Objective:
To lead the production operations at the Bhiwadi facility, ensuring that output targets are met, cost efficiencies are achieved, production processes adhere to relevant quality and safety standards, and continuous improvement is driven in alignment with JAL’s manufacturing and business strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan, schedule and manage daily production activities, ensuring alignment with plant targets (volume, quality, cost) and timely delivery.
- Ensure adherence to product specifications, alloy/process parameters, extrusion/rolling guidelines, and relevant engineering standards (for extruded & flat-rolled aluminium).
- Optimise utilisation of manpower, machinery (presses, rolling mills, downstream operations), materials/inventory, and utilities to enhance productivity and cost-effectiveness.
- Coordinate with Maintenance, Quality Assurance (QA), Process Engineering, Tool Shop, and Technical functions to ensure smooth plant functioning, minimised downtime, and high equipment reliability.
- Analyse production data, key performance indicators (KPIs) such as yield, scrap, uptime, throughput, cost per unit, downtime, and drive continuous improvement initiatives (Lean, Six Sigma, 5S, kaizen) to improve operational efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) norms, 5S practices, housekeeping, and ensure that the facility meets the certifications and standards maintained by JAL (e.g., ISO 9001:2015, ISO 45001, AS 9100D etc). Jindal Aluminium+1
- Foster a culture of safety, quality, innovation and team development; mentor/manage production teams (supervisors, engineers, operators), drive training and capability building.
- Work with supply chain/logistics, procurement, process engineering and commercial functions for material planning, cost control, and production forecasting.
- Report to the Plant Head on production metrics, improvements, CAPEX/OPEX initiatives, and contribute to annual business planning for the Bhiwadi plant.
Profile Requirements:
- Bachelor of Engineering (B.E.)/B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related discipline.
- 12-18 years of relevant experience in aluminium or metal manufacturing industry (extrusion, rolling, flat-rolled products) with significant exposure to production planning, operations management.
- Hands-on experience in production planning, process optimisation, managing large scale manufacturing operations, cost control, manpower & equipment management.
- Experience in aluminium extrusion/flat-rolled operations is preferred (given JAL’s core business) – familiarity with aluminium alloys, extrusion/rolling presses, downstream processes will be a plus.
- Strong analytical skills (production data, KPI monitoring), experience in driving continuous improvement (Lean/Six Sigma), strong leadership and people-management skills.
- Good process engineering understanding, safety & quality mindset, ability to work under pressure and drive results in a high-volume manufacturing environment.
- Excellent communication and coordination skills; ability to interface with multi-functional stakeholders (maintenance, QA, engineering, supply chain, HSE).
- Willingness to be based at Bhiwadi (Rajasthan) and work shifts/flexible hours as per production demands.
