About the Role:
Rama University is seeking a skilled
Education Counselor / Academic Counselor
to join our student services team. The ideal candidate will have 1-4 years of experience in educational counseling or academic advising, with a strong ability to communicate and connect with students. As an Education Counselor, you will be responsible for providing academic and career counseling, guiding students in selecting appropriate courses and programs, and offering support throughout their educational journey. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential in this role, as you'll be the key point of contact for students navigating their academic path.
Key Responsibilities:
Academic Counseling
: Provide guidance to students on course selection, program options, and career pathways based on their academic goals, strengths, and interests.Individualized Support
: Offer one-on-one counseling to help students overcome academic challenges, manage workloads, and improve performance.Admissions Guidance
: Assist prospective students with admission requirements, procedures, and provide clarity on university programs, ensuring a smooth transition into university life.Develop Educational Plans
: Work with students to create personalized academic plans, ensuring that their chosen courses align with both university requirements and personal aspirations.Student Engagement
: Foster strong relationships with students by maintaining open lines of communication, offering motivation and support, and addressing concerns related to academics or university life.Monitor Student Progress
: Track the academic progress of students, identifying those who may need additional help or resources and referring them to relevant support services.Workshops and Seminars
: Conduct workshops and group counseling sessions on academic skills, time management, career exploration, and university policies.Collaboration
: Work closely with faculty, admissions, and administrative departments to ensure students receive comprehensive support and relevant information regarding their academic needs.Conflict Resolution
: Act as a mediator in resolving academic-related issues, helping students navigate academic probation, course withdrawals, or other challenges.Record Keeping
: Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student interactions, counseling sessions, academic plans, and progress reports using university CRM systems or student databases.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Experience
: 1-4 years of experience in academic counseling, educational advising, or a related role, preferably in a university or educational institution.Excellent Communication Skills
: Strong verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with students, faculty, and parents.Interpersonal Skills
: Ability to build rapport and establish trust with students and other stakeholders, offering empathetic and supportive guidance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience working in higher education, particularly in a counseling or academic advising role.
- Familiarity with university policies and procedures related to course registration, grading systems, and academic support services.
- Certification in counseling or a related field is a plus.
- Experience in handling student academic issues, including managing academic probation and advising on career development.
