Job Description

The Welding Engineer will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and supervising all welding activities involved in shipbuilding and repair projects. The role ensures welding quality, adherence to classification society requirements, and compliance with shipyard standards and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and review Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), and Welder Qualification Tests (WQT) in accordance with applicable codes and standards (AWS, ASME, ISO, or Classification Societies).
  • Supervise and monitor welding operations to ensure compliance with drawings, standards, and client specifications.
  • Evaluate and select appropriate welding processes, consumables, and parameters for various materials (steel, stainless steel, aluminum, etc.).
  • Conduct welding inspections (visual, dimensional, and NDT coordination) and maintain detailed documentation.
  • Liaise with production, quality, and design teams to resolve welding-related issues during fabrication and assembly.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and environmental regulations during welding activities.
  • Coordinate with third-party surveyors and classification societies for welding approvals and inspections.
  • Provide technical training and guidance to welders and supervisors on welding techniques and quality standards.
  • Maintain and update welding records, traceability documents, and inspection reports.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for welding productivity, quality, and cost efficiency.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education: Diploma or B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Metallurgical / Marine Engineering.
  • Experience: 3–8 years in welding operations within shipbuilding, offshore, or heavy fabrication industries.
  • Strong knowledge of welding codes and standards (AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, ISO 15614, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with MIG, TIG, FCAW, and SMAW processes.
  • Familiarity with NDT methods (VT, RT, UT, MT, PT).
  • Proficiency in interpreting fabrication drawings and welding symbols.
  • Excellent problem-solving and coordination skills.
  • Certification such as CSWIP 3.1 / 3.2 or AWS-CWI will be an added advantage.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per month
