Job Title: Tempo Driver
Department: Logistics/Operations/Transportation (depending on the company structure)
Reports To: Dispatcher, Logistics Manager, or Supervisor
Job Summary:
Responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of goods, materials, using a light commercial vehicle, typically a "Tempo" or similar vehicle. This role involves operating the vehicle, adhering to traffic laws, ensuring the timely delivery or pickup of items or passengers, and maintaining the vehicle in good condition.
Responsibilities:
Vehicle Operation: Safely operate a Tempo or similar light commercial vehicle, adhering to all traffic laws and company regulations.
Transportation of Goods/Passengers: Transport goods, materials, or passengers to designated locations in a timely and efficient manner.
Loading and Unloading: Assist with the loading and unloading of goods, ensuring proper handling and securing of cargo to prevent damage during transit. This may involve physical lifting.
Route Planning: Follow assigned routes and schedules, and adapt to unexpected delays or changes as needed, communicating any significant issues to the supervisor.
Vehicle Maintenance: Perform daily checks on the vehicle, including tires, lights, brakes, fuel, and other essential components. Report any maintenance issues or vehicle malfunctions promptly.
Documentation: Maintain accurate records of deliveries, pickups, mileage, fuel consumption, and any incidents or delays. This may involve using logbooks or electronic devices.
Customer Service: Interact professionally with clients or passengers, ensuring a positive and courteous experience.
Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures, including wearing seatbelts, following speed limits, and ensuring the vehicle is operated safely at all times.
Communication: Maintain clear and effective communication with dispatchers, supervisors, and other team members using mobile phones or other communication devices.
Vehicle Cleanliness: Keep the vehicle clean and well-maintained, both inside and outside.
Other Duties: Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Qualifications and Requirements:
Valid Driver's License: Must possess a valid commercial driver's license (or equivalent for light commercial vehicles as per local regulations).
Driving Experience: Proven experience as a driver, preferably with light commercial vehicles or similar. Familiarity with local roads and traffic conditions.
Knowledge of Traffic Laws: Thorough understanding of traffic laws, regulations, and safe driving practices.
Basic Vehicle Maintenance Knowledge: Ability to perform basic vehicle checks and identify potential maintenance issues.
Physical Stamina: Ability to handle the physical demands of the job, which may include loading and unloading goods and sitting for extended periods.
Communication Skills: Good verbal communication skills to interact with dispatchers, supervisors, and clients.
Time Management: Ability to manage time effectively and adhere to schedules.
Responsibility and Reliability: Must be responsible, reliable, and punctual.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to handle unexpected situations and solve minor problems that may arise during deliveries or pickups.
Literacy: Basic reading and writing skills for maintaining records and understanding instructions.
Preferred Skills (Optional):
Familiarity with GPS navigation systems.
Experience with specific types of cargo handling.
First-aid knowledge.
Working Conditions:
Primarily involves operating a vehicle in various weather conditions.
May involve early morning starts, late evenings, or weekend work depending on the schedule.
May require some physical exertion during loading and unloading.
