Job Description

Tea tasting is an art, and the primary responsibility of a Tea Taster is to evaluate tea and provide expert advice on the best brewing methods to achieve specific flavours. We are looking for a highly skilled Tea A Tea Taster who is a sensory expert to evaluates tea's quality, flavour, and aroma for consistency, blending, and new product development, brewed liquor, taste, and colour to ensure standards are met, requiring deep knowledge of tea types.

Key Responsibilities:

· Tea Tasting & Categorization:

Taste, categorize, and classify teas based on their qualities. Evaluate the flavour, aroma, and appearance of different tea samples and provide expert advice on brewing methods to enhance specific tastes.

· Tea Cataloguing & IT Systems:

Utilize tea cataloguing software to document tasting notes, blend compositions, and procurement information. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of tea samples, blends, and evaluations using IT systems.

· Quality Assurance & Control:

Lead group tea tasting sessions to evaluate the quality of teas being sourced. Ensure that all teas meet Chaichun & Okayti’s high standards for flavour and consistency. Collaborate with factory teams to monitor production processes and ensure continuous quality improvement.

· Tea Valuation & Procurement:

Work closely with the procurement team to evaluate tea samples for pricing, valuation, and procurement decisions. Maintain strong relationships with suppliers and traders to ensure a steady supply of high-quality tea.

· Factory Coordination:

Visit tea estates and coordinate with factory teams to monitor tea processing, providing feedback and guidance on maintaining quality during production. Address any quality control issues that arise and implement improvements.

· Leadership & Market Awareness:

Exhibit leadership qualities in managing teams at the plantations or factories and handling relationships with labourers. Stay updated on changes in the tea market and adapt sourcing and blending strategies accordingly.

· Tea Industry Knowledge:

Maintain up-to-date knowledge of tea cultivation, production processes, and the various grades and varieties of tea. Share insights on market forces and trends that could impact the tea industry.

Requirements:

· Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Tea Taster, with a deep understanding of tea blending, evaluation, and quality control.

· Strong sensory skills to differentiate subtle flavours and aromas in tea, with a keen sense of taste and smell.

· Expertise in tea production, cultivation, and grading processes, with the ability to work closely with factory and estate teams.

· Leadership abilities with experience in managing labourers and coordinating quality control efforts in factories or plantations.

· Experience in tea valuation, procurement, and supplier management.

· Ability to work on new product development and align tea blends with customer preferences.

· Willingness to travel to tea estates and factories as part of quality control and procurement efforts.

· Must refrain from smoking and alcohol consumption to ensure the integrity of tea tasting.
