To deliver a comprehensive and safe swimming program that develops students’ water safety skills, swimming techniques, and overall physical fitness. The coach will foster a positive environment that encourages participation, discipline, and sportsmanship in both recreational and competitive swimming.Key Responsibilities
Instruction & Coaching
Plan and deliver swimming lessons appropriate for various age groups and skill levels.Teach water safety, stroke techniques (freestyle, breaststroke, backstroke, butterfly), starts, turns, and endurance training.Differentiate instruction for beginner, intermediate, and advanced swimmers.Safety & Supervision
Ensure strict supervision and adherence to safety protocols at all times.Conduct pre-session pool checks and ensure all safety equipment is functional and accessible.Enforce pool rules and school safety policies consistently.Program & Curriculum Development
Develop a structured swimming curriculum aligned with the school’s physical education program and international standards.Organize skill assessments and maintain records of student progress and achievements.Provide opportunities for students to explore both recreational and competitive aspects of swimming.Competition & Events
Identify and train students for intra-school, inter-school, regional, or national competitions.Plan and coordinate swimming meets, friendly matches, and annual sports events involving swimming.Travel with and supervise students during swim competitions or off-site training sessions.Equipment & Facility Management
Ensure regular maintenance of the pool, filtration system, and safety equipment in collaboration with facility staff.Monitor and manage inventory of swimming gear (kickboards, fins, pull buoys, stopwatches, etc.).Report any hazards or malfunctions to the appropriate authorities immediately.Student Well-being & Development
Promote water confidence, teamwork, personal discipline, and resilience.Support the inclusion of all students, including those with limited swimming experience or additional learning needs.Provide encouragement and individual feedback to help each student reach their potential.Collaboration & Communication
Collaborate with the PE department and extracurricular teams on scheduling, interdisciplinary programs, and student support.Maintain open communication with students, parents, and school leadership regarding progress, concerns, and upcoming events.Participate in staff meetings, parent-teacher interactions, and professional development sessions.Qualifications & Experience
Certified Swimming Instructor/Coach (e.g., ASCA, STA, ASA, AUSTSWIM, Red Cross, or equivalent)Valid Lifeguard Certification (required)First Aid & CPR Certification (required)Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education, Sports Science, or related field (preferred)Minimum 2–5 years of experience coaching swimming, preferably in an international or school settingExperience preparing students for competitions (desirable)Skills & Attributes
Strong technical knowledge of swimming strokes and training techniquesExcellent swimmer with the ability to demonstrate and model proper techniqueHigh standards of safety awareness and crisis managementPositive, motivating, and student-centered coaching styleStrong organizational and time-management skillsCross-cultural sensitivity and ability to work with a diverse student bodyDesirable (Optional)
Experience in managing or maintaining swimming pool operationsAbility to teach other aquatic disciplines (e.g., water polo, synchronized swimming, lifesaving)Familiarity with school curricula like IB PYP/MYP (for physical education integration)Involvement in whole-school health and wellness programs
