Job Description

Role & responsibilities

  • Responsible for MW generation and dispatch of scheduled energy as per the declared capacity (DC).
  • Ensure safe plant operations, including start-up, shutdown, emergency handling, troubleshooting, and maintaining the safety and security of all assets within the plant premises during the shift.
  • Maintain and improve plant parameters in line with design heat rate, availability, and reliability standards. Ensure all defects are properly recorded and closed on time.
  • Possess comprehensive knowledge of all thermal power plant assets, including optimal plant start-up, shutdown, and emergency handling procedures.
  • Ensure accurate recording of all operation-related activities, including logbooks, checklists, shift routines, changeovers, PTWs, logic forcing registers, merit order tools, and general plant housekeeping.
  • Prepare standard operating procedures (SOPs) for plant start-up, shutdown, and emergency conditions.
  • Identify and evaluate energy efficiency measures, calculate potential energy savings, and prepare related reports.
  • Perform routine checks of various plant reports, such as coal analysis, oil analysis, AHP reports, water chemistry reports, and mill fineness reports.
  • Track all power plant operation-related reports, including generation reports, defect registers, oil top-up reports, emergency equipment availability reports, shutdown defect registers, and operation budget planning.
  • Ensure all parameters of the Boiler, Turbine, Generator, and associated auxiliaries, BOP Systems, FGD Systems, and all other mechanical systems remain within acceptable limits.
  • Maintain sound knowledge of relevant SAP modules used at the plant.
  • Possess in-depth understanding of all equipment operations and power plant chemistry, including boiler water chemistry, steam parameters, and cooling water chemistry.
  • Ability to train and develop Control Room Engineers and Field Engineers for higher responsibilities.
  • Manage plant emergencies effectively and take timely action to prevent failures and improve availability and reliability.
  • Analyze breakdown incidents and implement corrective actions based on Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Demonstrate strong management skills to build and lead a dedicated and motivated operations team.
  • Make informed decisions and provide recommendations as per plant requirements.

Preferred candidate profile

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in power plant operations, with experience in supervisory role.
  • Experience with thermal power plant.
  • Familiarity with SCADA/DCS systems and modern power plant control systems.
