Job Description

As the Senior Software Engineering Manager for Gameplay Services at Electronic Arts, your primary responsibility will be to lead a team of engineers in strategic planning, building, testing, and operating several of the services that power online features for EA's game titles. You will work towards delivering new features and services that enhance player experiences while ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and scalability of the services. Reporting to a Senior Engineering Manager, you will play a key role in shaping the careers of your team members and mentoring them to reach their full potential. **Key Responsibilities:** - Create technical requirements for new services and features - Collaborate with engineers, program managers, and product managers to balance technical investments, feature delivery, and technical debt management - Provide input for high-level planning, resource allocation, effort estimation, and risk assessment - Understand customer needs and use cases for services - Review designs, demos, and documentation to ensure deliverables meet requirements - Identify and promote improvements to enhance engineering productivity and product quality - Participate in sprint execution, assist in estimation and risk management, and remove technical roadblocks - Provide feedback, coaching, and support for career development of team members - Conduct hands-on development and lead by example - Interview and hire engineers as per resource planning **Qualifications:** - Coaching and mediation skills - Experience in managing and project planning for a team of 4+ - Technical leadership and mentoring experience - In-depth experience in all phases of the product development lifecycle - 7+ years of programming experience, with a total of 12-14 years in Software Engineering and 2+ years in an engineering manager role - Expertise in stress testing, performance tuning, and optimization - Strong debugging and optimization skills in a distributed, multi-threaded environment - Experience in troubleshooting and mitigating issues in live environments - Knowledge of high-traffic services and highly scalable systems **Bonus Qualifications:** - Experience with cloud computing technologies like Envoy, Istio, Kubernetes - Proficiency in gRPC and protobuf - Familiarity with scalable data storage and processing technologies such as Cassandra, Apache Spark, and AWS S3 - Knowledge of relational or NoSQL databases - Previous experience in the games industry In conclusion, Electronic Arts values adaptability, resilience, creativity, and curiosity.
