The Opportunity

Senior Rail Designer

What You'll Do

  • Own projects end-to-end:

    scoping, estimates, schedules, risk registers, and client updates.
  • Design & deliverables:

    horizontal/vertical alignment, turnouts/crossovers, yard/industry tracks, grading, drainage/culverts, crossings, profiles, plan & profile sheets, cross-sections, details, BoQs/quantities.
  • Standards & compliance:

    produce designs aligned with

    AREMA

    ,

    UPRR

    and

    BNSF

    industrial track requirements; familiarity with FRA/state DOT guidance is a plus.
  • Quality & coordination:

    lead QA/QC, clash checks, constructability reviews; coordinate with survey, civil/site, structures, and construction teams.
  • Client-facing leadership:

    run design reviews, respond to RFIs, and manage comments through close-out.
  • Team enablement:

    mentor junior staff; review work; uphold CAD/BIM standards and naming conventions.
  • Delivery management:

    track progress, manage risks/changes, and hit milestones across time zones.

What You'll Bring

Must-haves

  • 5–10+ years

    in rail/industrial track design with proven

    client-facing

    delivery.
  • Hands-on expertise with

    Bentley OpenRail Designer

    /

    MicroStation

    ; ProjectWise experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated work to

    UPRR/BNSF

    standards (industrial track, turnouts, clearances, drainage).
  • Strong grasp of

    AREMA

    practices, alignment geometry, earthwork, and rail site civil interfaces.
  • Ability to independently manage schedules, budgets, and multi-disciplinary coordination.
  • Excellent written & verbal communication for U.S. client interactions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Exposure to

    TxDOT/FRA

    guidance, grade crossing design, hydrology/hydraulics basics.
  • AutoTURN (rail car paths), Civil 3D familiarity, construction support, and quantity take-offs.
  • Experience training/mentoring designers; establishing CAD standards/templates.
