Chartered Accountant (CA)

Key Responsibilities:-

1. Financial Management:

  • Lead the preparation, implementation, and management of the universitys financial strategy, ensuring alignment with the universitys short-term and long-term goals.
  • Prepare detailed monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports for review by senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee budgeting processes across the university, ensuring that all departments adhere to the approved financial plans and allocate resources effectively.
  • Monitor financial performance, identify variances, and recommend adjustments to ensure financial goals are achieved.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor effective financial controls to safeguard the universitys assets and ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

2. Budgeting, Forecasting & Financial Analysis:

  • Coordinate and manage the university's annual budgeting process, ensuring all departments submit accurate and realistic budget requests aligned with the institution’s strategic objectives.
  • Prepare and update financial forecasts, provide variance analysis, and make recommendations to improve financial performance.
  • Provide detailed and actionable financial analysis to the leadership team to support data-driven decision-making.

3. Financial Reporting & Compliance:

  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of financial reports, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, in accordance with applicable financial reporting standards and university policies.
  • Ensure compliance with all tax regulations, financial standards, and university-specific financial policies.
  • Work closely with external auditors to ensure the university passes all audits successfully and that any corrective actions are promptly addressed.
  • Prepare documentation for tax filings, and ensure compliance with government regulations regarding grants, donations, and external funding.

4. Administration & Operational Management:

  • Oversee the administrative functions within the Finance & Administration department, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Develop and maintain systems and processes that improve efficiency and enhance service delivery across administrative functions (e.g., procurement, staffing, vendor management).
  • Lead administrative tasks such as contract management, facilities management, and ensuring that all compliance-related documentation is maintained properly.
  • Collaborate with other departments to streamline internal administrative workflows, improve communication, and ensure operational excellence.

5. Strategic Planning & Advisory:

  • Advise senior leadership on financial strategy, including long-term financial planning, capital investment decisions, and resource allocation.
  • Contribute to the development of the university’s strategic plan by providing financial insights and supporting resource planning.
  • Assist in the preparation of strategic proposals, presentations, and business plans related to financial and administrative functions.

6. Human Resources & Team Management:

  • Lead, manage, and develop a team within the Finance & Administration department, ensuring clear roles and responsibilities, performance monitoring, and professional growth.
  • Promote a positive working environment, encouraging teamwork, innovation, and accountability.
  • Provide ongoing training and support for staff to ensure adherence to the university’s financial and administrative policies and procedures.

7. Grants & External Funding:

  • Manage the financial aspects of university grants, donations, and other external funding sources, ensuring compliance with donor and government requirements.
  • Support departments in identifying and applying for funding opportunities, ensuring accurate reporting and utilization of funds.
  • Coordinate with faculty and research departments to monitor the financial use of external grants and ensure proper allocation and reporting.

Qualifications:

Mandatory:

  • Chartered Accountant (CA)

    from a recognized professional accounting body (ICAI or equivalent).

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field is required.
  • A Master’s degree (MBA, MPA) or additional certifications in finance or management is preferred but not mandatory.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5-7 years

    of professional experience in financial management, with at least

    3 years in a senior leadership role

    within the education or higher education sector.
  • Proven experience managing financial functions within a university environment, including budgeting, financial reporting, compliance, and strategic financial planning.
  • Strong experience in

    university administration

    , including handling non-financial administrative functions such as procurement, facilities management, and staff management.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional teams, working with senior leadership, and navigating complex organizational structures.

Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of financial management, accounting principles, financial regulations, and reporting standards (preferably in the context of higher education).
  • Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in leading teams and working collaboratively across departments.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present complex financial information to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Proficient in financial software and tools (e.g., ERP systems, accounting software, Microsoft Excel).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions and improve financial and operational outcomes.

Working Conditions:

  • Location:

    Office-based role, with occasional travel across departments and external meetings.
  • Hours:

    Full-time position, with standard office hours. Occasional evening or weekend work may be required depending on financial reporting deadlines or project requirements.
