Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities:

  1. Tool Room Management

    • Oversee daily tool room activities, including tool design, manufacturing, maintenance, and validation.
    • Ensure all press tools, jigs, fixtures, and gauges are designed and maintained as per customer and production requirements.
    • Plan and monitor tool trials, corrections, and improvements to achieve optimal tool performance and tool life.
    • Coordinate with production and quality teams to address tooling issues and ensure minimal downtime.
  2. Design & Development

    • Lead the design and development of sheet metal press tools, dies, and related components using CAD software (AutoCAD, CATIA, UG-NX, SolidWorks, etc.).
    • Review and approve tool drawings, 3D models, and BOM before manufacturing.
    • Drive process improvement, standardization, and design optimization for cost, quality, and delivery.
  3. New Product Development (NPD)

    • Lead NPD projects from concept to production, ensuring timely execution and meeting customer specifications.
    • Coordinate with customers, design, production, and quality teams for new part feasibility, prototype trials, and PPAP documentation.
    • Develop timelines and monitor project progress, ensuring adherence to milestones.
  4. Team Leadership

    • Guide and mentor tool design engineers, toolmakers, and project engineers.
    • Build technical capability within the team through training and knowledge sharing.
    • Foster a culture of continuous improvement, innovation, and accountability.
  5. Vendor & Cost Management

    • Coordinate with vendors for tool manufacturing, outsourcing, and procurement of tool room consumables.
    • Monitor cost, lead time, and quality of outsourced tools and components.
    • Identify cost reduction opportunities through design and process optimization.
  6. Documentation & Compliance

    • Maintain proper documentation of tool designs, revisions, maintenance records, and project reports.
    • Ensure adherence to ISO/TS, IATF 16949, and safety standards within the tool room.

Preferred Candidate Profile:

  • Qualification:

    B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Tool Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience:

    12 to 18 years of experience in Tool Room Design & NPD, preferably in sheet metal or automotive component manufacturing.
  • Technical Skills:

    • Proficient in tool design software (CATIA, NX, AutoCAD, etc.).
    • Strong understanding of press tool design, development, and maintenance.
    • Knowledge of manufacturing processes sheet metal forming, machining, heat treatment, etc.
    • Exposure to APQP, PPAP, FMEA, and NPD documentation.
  • Leadership Skills:

    • Excellent project management and team-handling capabilities.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
    • Effective communication and customer coordination ability.
