There has been multifold increase in intensity novel materials research at Birla Carbon over last few years. The R & D team is developing new products and exploring avenues for applications. Every year there are several products in various development life-cycle stages which require development of new analytical methods to better understand their characteristics and provide inputs to optimize processes.

1. Develop laboratory methods. Compile data, calculate results, and maintain accurate records

• Perform analytical method development following validated scientific procedures and all safety requirements.
• Document evaluation criteria, findings, application range, precision and bias as well as limitations.
• Generate standard operating procedures and train laboratory staff at various BC locations, sometimes even customer laboratories.
• Review and Update procedures at regular intervals

1. Laboratory operations

• Perform routine, non-routine analysis on samples in timely manner.
• Provide interpretation of test results.
• Generate reports, and presentations as requested.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocol & guidelines

1. Laboratory infrastructure

• Maintain, repair, calibrate and monitor performance of testing instrumentation.
• Identify opportunities and expand the experimental capabilities of existing instruments.
• Evaluate/explore new analytical techniques to meet novel material characterization needs and make CAPEX recommendations

1. Communication

• Interact with internal customers like R & D directors, global and regional quality heads, manufacturing organization, product stewardship, technical services team to understand challenges and provide solutions.
• Flexibility to work outside office hours to interact with colleagues in the other region.
• Interact with peers in other ABG businesses laboratories to understand and utilize unique capabilities.
• Interact with academic institutes, ASTM, ISO organizations and bring insights into the organization about upcoming trends.
