SAP Vertex Consultant

Key Responsibilities

• Implement, configure, and support

  Vertex O Series

  or

  Vertex Cloud

  solutions integrated with SAP ECC/S4HANA.
• Perform

  SAP–Vertex integration

  , including tax determination setup, jurisdiction codes, condition records, and tax procedure configuration.
• Troubleshoot tax calculation issues across

  SD, MM, FI

  modules and external systems.
• Work with cross-functional teams to validate tax rules, rates, and compliance requirements.
  
• Integrate Vertex with various SAP processes: sales orders, purchase orders, billing, invoicing, returns, and procurement workflows.
  
• Support global indirect tax requirements (US Sales & Use Tax, VAT, GST, etc.).
  
• Work with technical teams to define and test

  API integrations

  , BAPIs, IDOCs, and middleware-based integrations.
• Develop functional specs for enhancements, customizations, and interface design.
  
• Conduct

  unit testing, system testing, regression testing

  for SAP–Vertex-based processes.
• Manage tax content updates, Vertex monthly/quarterly data updates, and system patches.
  
• Participate in production support, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement activities.
  
• Work in Agile/Scrum teams and ensure timely delivery of assigned tasks.
  

Required Skills & Experience

• 4.5 – 10 years

  of SAP functional experience with

  hands-on SAP–Vertex integration

  .
• Strong knowledge of

  Vertex O Series / Vertex Cloud

  configuration and tax engine functionality.
• Experience with SAP configurations in

  SD Tax

  ,

  FI Tax

  ,

  MM Tax

  , pricing procedures, and jurisdiction codes.
• Practical exposure to

  US Sales & Use Tax

  , VAT, GST, or global indirect tax frameworks.
• Strong understanding of SAP master data: customer, material, plant, company code, jurisdiction mapping.
  
• Experience in testing, validating, and troubleshooting SAP–Vertex scenarios.
  
• Ability to write functional specs, understand technical components, and work with ABAP developers.
  
• Hands-on experience with

  integration technologies

  like IDOCs, RFCs, APIs, CPI/PI/PO.
• Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
  

Nice-to-Have Skills

• Experience in

  S/4HANA

  implementation or migration projects.
• Knowledge of automation tools (HP ALM, Jira, Azure DevOps).
  
• Basic understanding of ABAP debugging for issue analysis.
  
• Experience with third-party tax engines or global tax tools other than Vertex.
  
• SAP Certification (SD/MM/FI) or Vertex certification.
