Role Overview

The Salesforce Marketing Cloud Architect is a senior technical leadership role responsible for designing and delivering scalable, data-driven, and personalized customer engagement solutions across Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Salesforce Personalization (Interaction Studio), and Salesforce Data Cloud (CDP).

This role bridges marketing strategy, data architecture, and technical execution—enabling clients to orchestrate real-time, personalized experiences across channels. The architect will collaborate with marketing, CRM, and data teams to define the future-state marketing architecture, integrate systems, and operationalize audience activation and personalization strategies.

  • Key Responsibilities

Solution Architecture & Technical Leadership

  • Serve as the primary architect and trusted advisor for Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Personalization (Interaction Studio), and CDP implementations.
  • Define the end-to-end solution architecture — spanning audience ingestion, identity resolution, segmentation, activation, and real-time engagement.
  • Design integration frameworks between Data Cloud, Marketing Cloud, and CRM systems (Sales/Service/Experience Cloud), ensuring unified customer data and seamless orchestration.
  • Architect personalization use cases leveraging Interaction Studio (Personalization), including web and app behavioural tracking, decisioning, and real-time recommendations.
  • Enable cross-cloud activation by integrating CDP segments with Marketing Cloud journeys, digital channels, and advertising destinations.
  • Ensure data privacy, consent management, and governance frameworks are embedded into design.

Delivery Ownership & Execution Excellence

  • Lead discovery and design workshops with client marketing, data, and technology teams.
  • Define technical design documents, data schemas, and API specifications.
  • Oversee SFMC solution builds across Email Studio, Journey Builder, Mobile Studio, Cloud Pages, and Automation Studio.
  • Build scalable personalization frameworks using Einstein Recommendations, Einstein Engagement Scoring, and Personalization Recipes.
  • Support end-to-end implementation: data ingestion, transformation, campaign orchestration, and testing.
  • Collaborate with data engineering teams for data integration pipelines between CDP and external data sources.
  • Define and enforce technical standards, performance best practices, and DevOps processes (CI/CD, source control, automated deployment).

Client & Team Leadership

  • Act as a Solution Architect within client and internal teams—translating marketing goals into data and technology enablement plans.
  • Partner with strategy and delivery leads to define roadmaps for Marketing Automation, Personalization, and CDP maturity.
  • Guide cross-functional teams (developers, analysts, campaign specialists) through architecture and delivery best practices.
  • Conduct enablement sessions to upskill client teams on platform capabilities and operating models.
  • Support pre-sales and RFP responses through technical scoping, solution definition, and estimation.

  • Required Skills & Experience

Core Salesforce Expertise

  • 10+ years of total Salesforce experience, with 6+ years hands-on in Salesforce Marketing Cloud
  • Deep technical proficiency with:
    • Marketing Cloud: Email Studio, Journey Builder, Mobile Studio, Automation Studio, Cloud Pages.
    • Personalization (Interaction Studio): Real-time decisioning, web/app personalization, behavioural tracking, and recipe configuration.
    • Data Cloud (CDP): Data modelling, identity resolution, calculated insights, and activation to Marketing Cloud.
  • Strong command of AMP script, SSJS, SQL, REST/SOAP APIs, and external integrations.
  • Hands-on experience integrating SFMC with Sales/Service Cloud, Data Cloud, and external systems via APIs or middleware (MuleSoft preferred).

Architecture & Data Skills

  • Strong understanding of data architecture, segmentation strategy, and ETL pipelines.
  • Knowledge of real-time data streaming and audience activation frameworks.
  • Ability to design for scalability, security, and compliance (GDPR, CCPA).
  • Experience defining enterprise marketing data models and customer identity resolution logic.

Leadership & Consulting Skills

  • Proven experience leading multi-cloud implementations or transformation programs.
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills—able to bridge business, marketing, and IT teams.
  • Skilled at conducting workshops, whiteboarding sessions, and solution demos.
  • Experience working in consulting or agency environments delivering across multiple clients and domains.

Certifications

  • Salesforce Marketing Cloud certifications (Developer, Consultant, or Administrator).
  • Salesforce Certified Data Cloud Consultant and/or Salesforce Personalization Accredited Professional preferred.
  • Additional certifications across Salesforce Core Clouds or MuleSoft are a plus.

Nice to Have

  • Experience with Journey orchestration across multiple channels and platforms.
  • Familiarity with Adobe, Braze, or other marketing automation platforms for comparative strategy.
  • Exposure to Customer 360 Data Strategy and Marketing Technology road mapping.
  • Awareness of AI-driven activation and predictive segmentation strategies.

  • Strong analytical mindset with the ability to simplify complex data and architecture topics for business audiences.
