Roles & Responsibilities:

Safety planning and risk management

• Develop safety plans:

  Create site-specific safety plans for each road construction project, identifying and mitigating unique hazards.

• Conduct risk assessments:

  Perform job hazard analyses to identify potential risks and develop protocols to control them.

• Ensure regulatory compliance:

  Make sure all project activities comply with local, state, and federal safety laws and regulations.

Site monitoring and inspections

• Perform site inspections:

  Conduct regular and routine inspections of the job site, including equipment and work practices.

• Identify hazards:

  Spot unsafe practices and conditions and implement immediate corrective actions.

• Monitor for PPE compliance:

  Ensure workers are properly using personal protective equipment (PPE).

Training and communication

• Provide safety training:

  Conduct training sessions, including orientation and refresher courses, to educate workers on safety protocols and emergency procedures.

• Lead meetings:

  Plan and lead daily site safety meetings, like toolbox talks, to keep the workforce informed.

• Communicate with stakeholders:

  Work with project managers, supervisors, and subcontractors to ensure everyone understands and follows safety guidelines.

Incident response and reporting

• Investigate incidents:

  Investigate accidents, injuries, and near misses to determine root causes and prevent future occurrences.

• Manage reporting:

  Document incidents and submit required safety reports to management and relevant government agencies.

• Coordinate emergency response:

  Develop and test emergency response plans and coordinate drills.

Culture and management

• Promote safety culture:

  Foster a site-wide culture where safety is a priority for everyone.

• Collaborate with management:

  Provide guidance to the project management team on all health and safety matters.

• Manage documentation:

  Maintain records of all safety-related activities, such as inspections, training, and incident reports.
