Job Summary: The Robotics and Electronics Engineer is responsible for both the instructional and operational aspects of a school makerspace. This role involves designing and delivering STEAM-based learning experiences, managing the makerspace environment, and ensuring the effective use of space and resources. The educator will foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and collaboration, while maintaining a safe and well-organized makerspace. Key Responsibilities:Instruction and Facilitation: Lesson Design and Delivery: Create and implement engaging, hands-on lessons that integrate science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics (STEAM) concepts. Guide students through the planning, execution, and completion of individual and group projects. Teach students to safely and effectively use a variety of makerspace tools and technologies, including 3D printers, laser cutters, woodworking tools, electronics kits, and relevant software. Student Support: Provide individualized support and mentorship to students, encouraging problem-solving, critical thinking, and creativity. Foster a collaborative and inclusive environment where all students feel welcome and motivated to explore and create. Curriculum Development: Integration with School Curriculum: Develop and implement a makerspace curriculum that aligns with school standards and learning objectives. Collaborate with other teachers to incorporate makerspace activities into the broader school curriculum across various subjects. Space Management: Organization and Maintenance: Maintain a clean, organized, and well-functioning makerspace, ensuring all tools and materials are in good working order. Manage the inventory of supplies and equipment, including tracking usage and coordinating the acquisition of new materials as needed. Safety Protocols: Develop, implement, and enforce safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment for all users of the makerspace. Provide safety training and supervision to students and staff using makerspace equipment. Community and Collaboration: Engagement and Outreach: Promote the makerspace and its programs within the school community and beyond. Organize and participate in events such as maker fairs, showcases, and exhibitions. Build partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and experts to enhance the makerspace program. Professional Development: Stay current with new technologies, tools, and best practices in the maker movement. Attend workshops, conferences, and training sessions as necessary. Qualifications: Education: Bachelor’s degree in Education, Engineering, Design, or a related field. Teaching certification may be required. Experience: Experience teaching or working in a makerspace, Fab Lab, or similar environment. Experience with project-based learning and STEAM education is highly desirable. Skills: Proficiency in using and maintaining makerspace tools and equipment. Strong organizational and management skills. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to inspire and motivate students. Creativity and a passion for hands-on learning and making. Working Conditions: This position typically involves working in a school environment, with a combination of classroom teaching and hands-on activities in the makerspace. The role may require occasional evening or weekend hours for special events or activities. By fostering a dynamic, engaging, and supportive makerspace environment, the Makerspace Coordinator and Educator plays a vital role in helping students develop critical 21st-century skills and a lifelong love of learning and innovation.
