: Mid-Level QA Engineer – Data Ingestion & ETL Specializing in Talend, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and DBT
Position Overview
We are seeking a Mid-Level QA Engineer to join our engineering team, focusing on Data Ingestion and ETL processes. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with Talend, Azure Data Factory (ADF), Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and DBT. This position is responsible for ensuring the quality, reliability, and performance of our data pipelines and ETL solutions, supporting our technology-centric and product engineering initiatives. You will collaborate closely with data engineers, developers, and product teams to validate, test, and optimize end-to-end data workflows.
Responsibilities
- Create, maintain, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for data ingestion and ETL processes across multiple platforms.
- Design and implement automated and manual testing strategies for data pipelines utilizing Talend, ADF, Snowflake, PostgreSQL, and DBT.
- Collaborate with data engineers, developers, and product managers to understand business requirements and translate them into effective test scenarios.
- Research, gather, and analyze requirements and technical documentation to ensure test coverage and identify potential risks or gaps.
- Validate data quality, integrity, and transformations throughout the ETL lifecycle, including source-to-target mapping and reconciliation.
- Standardize QA documentation and processes to ensure consistency in testing methodology, terminology, and reporting.
- Edit and proofread test artifacts for accuracy, clarity, and adherence to internal standards.
- Incorporate workflow diagrams, data flow charts, and other visuals to clearly illustrate complex ETL processes and test cases.
- Collect and incorporate feedback from users and stakeholders to continuously improve QA practices and documentation.
- Contribute to the maintenance of a centralized repository for QA documentation using tools such as SharePoint, JIRA, and Confluence.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Experience: 2–4 years of relevant experience in QA engineering, with a strong focus on data ingestion, ETL testing, and data platform validation.
Key Skills
- Proficiency in testing ETL solutions using Talend, Azure Data Factory (ADF), and DBT.
- Hands-on experience with data warehousing in Snowflake and relational database testing in PostgreSQL.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data flows and identify issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to document and explain technical issues clearly for both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Attention to detail; ensures accuracy and precision in test execution and reporting.
- Familiarity with QA tools and frameworks, as well as JIRA, Confluence, and O365 documentation tools.
- Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including engineers, data architects, and business analysts.
- Experience in both automated and manual testing approaches for data pipelines.
- Skilled in reviewing and editing test documentation for consistency and adherence to style guides.
Optional but Helpful
- Knowledge of the healthcare industry or related data standards.
- Familiarity with scripting or coding languages such as Python or SQL for test automation.
- Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments.
- Understanding of cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure and its data services.
