Job Description

The Purchase Manager is responsible for ensuring uninterrupted raw material availability at the plant, focusing on copper, aluminium, PVC, connectors, terminals, and other critical components. The role drives sourcing strategy, supplier management, and operational excellence to meet production schedules, minimize working capital, and ensure cost efficiency. It requires close coordination with production, planning, and logistics to maintain smooth operations and business continuity.

Role & responsibilities

  • Raw Material Availability & Plant Support

  • Ensure 100% material availability for plant production schedules across cables, connectors, and wiring harnesses.
  • Collaborate with production planning to align purchase releases with MPS and SIOP cycles.
  • Monitor raw material stock levels and implement reorder triggers to prevent stock-outs.
  • Coordinate closely with suppliers, logistics, and warehouses for timely delivery and receipt of materials.
  • Manage copper/aluminium procurement aligned with LME index and ensure timely hedging and price locking.

  • Supplier Relationship & Performance Management

  • Establish a supplier performance review system (QCDS Quality, Cost, Delivery, Sustainability).
  • Manage supplier lead times, MOQ optimization, and delivery terms to balance inventory and supply risk.
  • Drive supplier audits, capacity validation, and quality improvement programs.
  • Implement supplier scorecards and monitor compliance with ESG and safety standards.
  • Identify reliable and cost-effective sources through localization and supplier diversification.

  • Cost & Inventory Optimization

  • Ensure total cost of ownership (TCO) reduction through VA/VE initiatives.
  • Track and control material cost variance against budget.
  • Optimize working capital through improved inventory turns and controlled aging.
  • Collaborate with planning to balance safety stock levels and service level agreements

  • D. Compliance & Governance

  • Ensure adherence to company procurement policy, ethics, and legal requirements.
  • Comply with DGFT, GST, REACH, RoHS, and import/export regulations.
  • Maintain accurate procurement master data in SAP / ERP and ensure audit readiness.
  • Incorporate clauses for price variation, force majeure, and quality obligations in all contracts.

Preferred candidate profile

8 - 15 years of experience in procurement or sourcing within the Cable, Connector, or Wiring Harness industry.
Strong expertise in managing copper, aluminium, and PVC compound procurement.Hands-on experience in SAP / ERP for materials management.Proven track record in ensuring plant material continuity and supplier performance
