Role Summary: The Professor of Surgical Oncology is the senior-most academic and clinical expert responsible for leading the department, delivering high-quality education to undergraduate and postgraduate students, conducting advanced cancer surgeries, engaging in research, and overseeing the administrative, academic, and clinical activities of the department. Key Responsibilities: 1. Academic Responsibilities Deliver structured teaching (lectures, clinical postings, seminars) to MBBS and postgraduate students (MCh/DNB). Guide postgraduate thesis, dissertations, and journal publications. Organize academic events, CMEs, workshops, tumor boards, and multidisciplinary case discussions. Participate in curriculum development, assessments, and student mentorship. 2. Clinical Duties Lead complex surgical oncology procedures for solid tumors (head & neck, GI, breast, urologic, gynecologic, thoracic, etc.). Supervise preoperative and postoperative patient care. Coordinate with radiation oncology, medical oncology, pathology, and palliative care teams. Ensure implementation of evidence-based treatment protocols and cancer staging systems (e.g., AJCC). 3. Administrative Responsibilities Head the Department of Surgical Oncology and coordinate with medical college/hospital administration. Supervise faculty, residents, and staff, ensuring efficient departmental functioning. Oversee documentation, duty rosters, OR scheduling, and compliance with NMC norms. Ensure maintenance of infrastructure and procurement of equipment as per departmental needs. 4. Research Conduct and publish original research in peer-reviewed national and international journals. Promote departmental and institutional research projects, clinical trials, and registries. Apply for grants and ethical approvals as required. 5. Patient Services and Outreach Participate in cancer screening, awareness, and outreach programs. Coordinate tumor board discussions and multi-disciplinary patient planning. Serve as senior consultant for high-risk oncology patients and surgical decision-making. Qualifications: Essential: M.S. in General Surgery with M.Ch./DNB in Surgical Oncology from a recognized institute. Experience: Minimum 3–5 years as Associate Professor in a recognized teaching institution with evidence of publications, surgeries, and academic activities as per NMC guidelines. Registration: Valid registration with Medical Council of India or State Medical Council. Skills and Attributes: Advanced surgical oncology skills across subspecialties.
