Production Engineer - For Fabrication Section

Job Purpose:

To plan, execute, and monitor sheet metal fabrication activities, ensuring quality, productivity, and timely delivery while maintaining cost efficiency and adherence to safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Fabrication Process Management

• Plan and supervise sheet metal fabrication operations (cutting, punching, bending, welding, finishing, etc.).
  
• Prepare process flow and ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  
• Ensure effective utilization of manpower, machines, and materials.
  

2. Design & Technical Support

• Interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and technical specifications for fabrication.
  
• Provide inputs for manufacturability and process improvements.
  
• Coordinate with the design and tooling team for new product development (NPD).
  

3. Quality & Productivity

• Ensure first-time-right production by implementing quality checks during fabrication stages.
  
• Monitor rejections, rework, and take corrective/preventive actions.
  
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, 5S).
  

4. Machine & Tool Handling

• Operate/monitor CNC laser cutting, turret punching, bending, and welding machines.
  
• Ensure preventive maintenance and upkeep of fabrication machinery.
  
• Suggest tooling and fixture improvements to reduce cycle time.
  

5. Coordination & Reporting

• Coordinate with production planning, purchase, and assembly teams for smooth workflow.
  
• Track daily production vs. targets and report to management.
  
• Support in customer audits, ISO/TS documentation, and compliance requirements.
  

Key Skills & Competencies:

• Strong knowledge of sheet metal fabrication processes and machines.
  
• Ability to read & interpret engineering drawings (AutoCAD/SolidWorks).
  
• Knowledge of welding techniques, metallurgy, and surface finishing.
  
• Exposure to Lean Manufacturing, 5S, and Kaizen practices.
  
• Good analytical, problem-solving, and team-handling skills.
  

Educational Qualification & Experience:

• Diploma / B.E. / B.Tech in Mechanical / Production / Industrial Engineering.
  
• Certification in Fabrication / Welding / CAD-CAM preferred.
  

• Experience:

  15 years in sheet metal fabrication, preferably in electrical/automotive/engineering industry.
