Job Description

A fantastic opportunity is on offer to join as the Principal Systems Administrator at Thermo Fisher Scientific. As the DevOps Lead, your main role will entail propelling automation, scalability, and reliability in infrastructure and application deployments. You will spearhead the CI/CD strategy, infrastructure as code, and the optimization of system performance to bolster agile development and operational success.

Education/Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent experience and relevant formal academic/vocational qualification.
  • Previous experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 8+ years).

Major Job Responsibilities:

  • Build, implement, and manage CI/CD pipelines for enterprise applications.
  • Streamline infrastructure setup through the use of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools.
  • Lead DevOps strategy across development, QA, and production environments.
  • Collaborate with development and operations teams to streamline deployment workflows.
  • Monitor system performance, availability, and security across cloud and on-prem environments.
  • Manage container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker Swarm).
  • Ensure compliance with security and governance standards in automated workflows.
  • Troubleshoot deployment and infrastructure issues across environments.
  • Mentor junior engineers and promote DevOps guidelines.
  • Drive continuous improvement in release management and system reliability.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Deep understanding of CI/CD tools (e.g., Jenkins, GitLab CI, Azure DevOps).
  • Strong scripting skills (e.g., Bash, Python, PowerShell).
  • Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform, Ansible, and CloudFormation.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Experienced with system monitoring and logging tools like Prometheus, ELK, and Grafana.
  • Knowledge of networking, firewalls, and security protocols.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Ability to lead cross-functional teams and mentor junior staff.

Must Have skills:

  • CI/CD pipeline construction and oversight.
  • Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or Ansible.
  • Cloud platform experience (AWS/Azure/GCP).
  • Containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes).
  • Scripting for automation (Python/Bash/PowerShell).
  • Monitoring system performance and optimizing.
  • DevOps strategy and team leadership.

Good to have skills:

  • Experience with GitOps and ArgoCD.
  • Knowledge of service mesh (Istio, Linkerd).
  • Exposure to serverless architectures.
  • Familiarity with compliance frameworks (SOC2, ISO27001).
  • Experience with cost optimization in cloud environments.
  • Understanding of agile and DevSecOps practices.
