Requirements:Key Responsibilities:
Analyze existing MS SQL Server schemas, stored procedures, views, functions, and performance metrics.
Design and implement a migration plan to Aurora PostgreSQL using tools such as AWS Schema Conversion Tool (SCT) and AWS Database Migration Service (DMS).
Collaborate with application developers and data architects to ensure data integrity and performance post-migration.
Optimize PostgreSQL schemas and queries for high performance in the Aurora environment.
Establish and manage database security, backup/recovery strategies, and high-availability setups in AWS.
Monitor and maintain both legacy (SQL Server) and target (Aurora PostgreSQL) environments during transition.
Create detailed technical documentation for the migration process and operational procedures.
Provide training and support to internal teams post-migration.
Required Skills & Experience:
5+ years of experience as a Database Administrator, with strong expertise in MS SQL Server.
2+ years of hands-on experience with PostgreSQL, preferably Aurora PostgreSQL.
Proven experience in cloud database migrations, specifically from SQL Server to PostgreSQL.
Strong understanding of database objects, indexing, query tuning, and performance optimization in both SQL Server and PostgreSQL.
Proficiency with AWS DMS, AWS SCT, and related AWS RDS tools.
Experience with data validation, replication, rollback, and migration testing.
Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python, Bash, PowerShell) for automation tasks.
Experience working in DevOps or CI/CD environments for database deployments is a plus.
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
AWS Certified Database – Specialty or other AWS certifications.
Experience with containerized applications (Docker, Kubernetes) and managing DBs in such environments.
Knowledge of modern data platforms (e.g., Redshift, Snowflake) is a plus.
