The Centre for Infrastructure, Sustainable Transportation and Urban Planning (CiSTUP) at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) invites applications for a full-time Post-Doctoral Researcher in the area of driving-behavior modeling and traffic simulation. The selected candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Vijay Kovvali and will contribute to research involving the development, calibration, and implementation of driving-behavior models using advanced simulation tools. Qualified candidates with experience in microscopic simulation, data-driven traffic analysis, or mixedtraffic behavior in Indian conditions are strongly encouraged to apply.
This is a one-year full-time on-site appointment with the possibility of extension contingent on performance and project requirements. The preferred start date is as early as possible. 75% Research
Conduct and oversee simulation-based research on driving behavior and mixed-traffic flow
Develop, test, and refine modeling interfaces in platforms such as SUMO.
Incorporate Indian driving behavior characteristics into simulation environments.
Analyze simulation data and traffic datasets for model calibration and validation
Prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed journals and conference publications.
Assist in the preparation of research proposals and project reports.
15% Reporting and Dissemination
Present research updates in internal and external meetings.
Prepare technical documentation, reports, and presentations.
Participate in seminars, workshops, and academic conferences.
10% Mentoring Academic Contribution
Assist in mentoring graduate students and interns.
Support academic and research-related activities within CiSTUP, IISc.
Required Qualifications
PhD (completed or thesis submitted) in Transportation Engineering, Traffic Engineering, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field by the date of appointment.
Strong written communication skills as demonstrated through publications, reports, or thesis work.
Experience working in simulation-based traffic research, modeling, or computational analysis.
Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment and meet research deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
Mandatory: Hands-on experience with SUMO (Simulation of Urban Mobility).
Programming experience in Python andor C++ for simulation control or model development.
Experience with driver behavior modeling, mixed-traffic flow, and microscopic simulation.
Familiarity with TraCI API, VISSIM, or similar simulation platforms.
Experience in data-driven calibration, optimization, and validation (e.g., GA, PSO, statistical methods).
Strong analytical and scientific writing skills as evidenced in application materials.
Record of peer-reviewed publications, project participation, or proposal development.
