Job Purpose
The Plastic Injection Moulding Tool Designer is responsible for designing and developing injection moulds for plastic parts. This role requires a thorough understanding of the injection moulding process, materials, and CAD software to create detailed design specifications, prototypes, and final production tools.
A glimpse of your daily mission
- Design Development: Create innovative and efficient mould designs for plastic injection applications, ensuring functionality, durability, and manufacturability.
- CAD Modeling: Utilize CAD software such as Creo, AutoCAD to develop 2D and 3D models of moulds and components.
- Process Optimization: Collaborate with manufacturing teams to optimize design for cost-effectiveness, production speed, and quality control.
- Material Selection: Analyze and select the appropriate materials for mould design according to the requirements of the final product.
- Testing & Modifications: Conduct simulations and tests on mould designs to identify potential issues, and make necessary modifications before production.
- Documentation: Prepare detailed design documentation, including specifications, procedures, and maintenance manuals.
- Collaboration: Work closely with engineers, product designers, and production staff to ensure designs meet specifications and quality standards.
- Project Management: Oversee the project from concept through to production, managing timelines, resources, and budgets effectively.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues related to mould design, production processes, or quality assurance.
Your Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field.
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in mould design, preferably in plastic injection moulding.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in CAD software and understanding of mould-making processes and materials.
- Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Communication: Good verbal and written communication skills to convey technical information effectively to team members and stakeholders.
- Experience with 3D printing or rapid prototyping technologies.
- Knowledge of CNC machining processes and tools.
- Familiarity with industry standards and regulations regarding plastic products.
