Operations Manager

Location: Dobaspet, Bangalore

Main Responsibilities:

  • General Purpose:

    In this crucial position, you'll oversee all aspects of our CNC gear cutting operations. You'll lead a team of skilled machinists, guaranteeing on-time delivery of precise gear components while maximizing efficiency and minimizing costs.
  • Main / Essential Task:

    Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, quality, and adherence to safety protocols.
  • Roles and Responsibilities:

a) Operations Management

  • Ensure proper setup and operation of CNC gear cutting machines, including troubleshooting and resolving production issues.
  • Interpret blueprints and engineering specifications to determine machining parameters and tooling requirements.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of gear cutting principles, tolerances, and quality control procedures.
  • Project Management: Apply project management skills to coordinate and execute various projects, ensuring timely
  • completion and adherence to quality standards.
  • Supply Chain Management: Utilize expertise in supply chain management to optimize processes and ensure a smooth flow of materials.
  • Reporting and Review: Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly reviews of planning, production, purchasing , and quality control and stores. submitting comprehensive reports to stakeholders.
  • Review all functions like Drive the necessary lean practices
  • Problem Solver and Continuous Improvement: Proactively identify and address operational challenges, promoting a culture of continuous improvement, training, skill development and process improvement initiatives inside the factory like 5S, kaizens, SDCA and PDCA etc.
  • Comply with quality standards and tests to assure shipping of high quality products.
  • Focus more on customer complaints regarding issues in manufacturing and oversee the identification of the root cause of the problem and implement CAPA.
  • Deploy and review the daily and monthly targets of all key metrics.

b) Production Leadership :

  • Supervise and motivate a team of CNC gear cutting machine assembly technicians, ensuring a safe and productive work environment.
  • Develop and implement production schedules, optimizing workflow and meeting deadlines.
  • Monitor production performance metrics, identifying and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Prioritization: Identifying the major bottlenecks and problems and addressing it first
  • Credibility:Maintain credibility by accurately releasing orders and purchase orders, upholding the company's reputation.
  • Dependability: Ensure the timely and reliable fulfilment of commitments to customers and company directors.
  • Leadership Style: Be an inspirational leader, fostering a positive work culture, and aligning teams with the company's objectives.
  • Non-political and Collaborative: Foster a non-political work environment, promoting collaboration, and ensuring alignment among team members.
  • Assertiveness: Demonstrate assertiveness when required to drive decisions and actions for the benefit of the organization.
  • Ability to make informed and quick decisions

c) People Management

  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills to lead, motivate, and inspire teams towards achieving operational excellence.
  • Develop leaders in manufacturing domains to whom tasks can be effectively delegated
  • Ensure the delivery of the People Strategy within area of accountability
  • Responsible for imparting discipline and policy driven approach into the factory.
  • Set clear department objectives/KPIs and review and assess ongoing performance of direct reports and drive the rewards and recognition activity of deserving employees.
  • Mentor and support the team on both technical and managerial issues.
  • Communicate KPIs from the strategic annual plan so that each employee is aware
  • Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors

d) Visionary Planning:

  • Demonstrate the ability to visualize, strategize, and plan for the future, aligning operational activities with the company's vision.
  • Manufacturing Strategy: Develop and implement manufacturing strategies aligned with organizational goals.
  • Develop self sustainable systems and contingency plans to ensure the factory operates without surprises by conducting risk assessments of the different stages / processes in the factory.
  • Man Power Planning to meet future needs

e) OPEX Management

  • Prepare and control the manufacturing budget for all categories of products.
  • Constantly improve the inventory management system.
  • Reduce reworks, rejections, overtime, frequent tool breakages, downtime due to material, manpower, machine breakdown etc
  • Track and manage inventory levels of raw materials, cutting tools, and other machining supplies.
  • Implement cost-saving strategies for material procurement and tool maintenance.

Key Requirements:

  • Academic Background BE / ME - Mechanical Engineering
  • Major Preferred Masters in Engineering or Business Administration
  • Work Experience 12- 15 years
  • Preferred Industry Proven experience in a similar role within the automotive / aerospace sector
  • /Precision Machining and Assembly

Skills Required:

  • Knowledge about Digital Skills: Proficient in using Google Workspaces, SAP(SAP MM, PP, PM, QM modules and MRP systems), and other digital tools for effective communication, reporting, and analysis. Advance excel / Google sheets-Gantt chart, Pivot table, formulae
  • Ability to work with cross functional team
  • Knowledge about inventory management concepts like min-max, 2 bin system, JIT, EOQ etc
  • Six sigma black belt or any certification courses on lean manufacturing (favourable)
  • Problem solving tools like 8D, PFMEA, 5 W's, Fish bone analysis etc
  • Ability to prepare quality management system (QMS) flowcharts, processes and policies

Competencies Required:

  • Commercial and financial acumen
  • Customer Fronting and Sales: Leverage experience in customer-facing roles or sales to understand and meet customer requirements effectively.
  • Proven analytical, planning and problem solving
  • Knowledge about machine tool/ mechanical parts (favourable)
  • Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Industrial Relations (IR) Handling (favourable): Manage industrial relations issues effectively, ensuring a harmonious working environment.
