Job Overview:

OpenStack Administrator

Key Responsibilities

  • Deploy, configure, and manage OpenStack environments (manual and automated using Ansible, Fuel, or Kolla) across Red Hat OpenStack, Mirantis, and other vendor solutions.
  • Configure and maintain OpenStack core services:

    Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Glance, Keystone, Swift, Heat, Ceilometer

    .
  • Manage

    multi-tenant cloud environments

    including quotas, networks, and security groups.
  • Perform

    OpenStack upgrades

    across multiple releases (e.g., Kilo → Liberty → Mitaka).
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using

    Ansible, Terraform, Chef, and Puppet

    .
  • Support

    bare metal provisioning

    and virtualization with

    KVM

    and

    VMware ESXi

    .
  • Provision and manage storage backends such as

    Ceph clusters, Cinder volumes, Swift object storage

    , and image repositories.
  • Ensure

    secure access and compliance

    through

    RBAC and Keystone policies

    .
  • Monitor and troubleshoot OpenStack services using

    Nagios

    and perform log analysis for fault isolation.
  • Integrate OpenStack with

    CI/CD pipelines

    (Jenkins, GitHub, Maven) to support agile development and deployment.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams for performance optimization and environment scalability.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team knowledge sharing.

Required Technical Skills

Cloud & Virtualization

  • Proven hands-on experience with

    OpenStack

    (Nova, Neutron, Cinder, Glance, Keystone, Swift, Heat).
  • Strong knowledge of

    VMware ESXi, KVM

    , and exposure to

    Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift

    .
  • Familiarity with

    AWS architecture

    is a plus.

Operating Systems

  • Expertise in

    Ubuntu, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), CentOS, Solaris

    .

Automation & DevOps

  • Strong experience with

    Ansible, Terraform, Chef, Puppet

    .
  • Knowledge of

    Jenkins, Git, Maven

    , and CI/CD best practices.

Networking

  • Understanding of

    VLANs, routers, subnets, floating IPs

    .
  • Experience with

    Neutron networking services

    and

    SDN integration

    .

Storage

  • Hands-on experience with

    Ceph, Swift, Cinder

    .
  • Volume snapshots, backups, and restore strategies.

Programming & Scripting

  • Proficiency in

    Bash, Python, Ruby, Perl

    , and working knowledge of

    C/C++

    .

Monitoring & Troubleshooting

  • Experience with

    Nagios

    or equivalent monitoring tools.
  • Strong

    log analysis and fault isolation

    skills.
