MEP Electrical Design Engineer

Role Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented MEP Electrical Design Engineer with strong expertise in preparing Bills of Quantities (BOQ) and electrical design for building projects. The role involves planning, designing, and estimating electrical systems in compliance with project requirements, codes, and standards, while coordinating with multidisciplinary teams (Mechanical, Plumbing, Architecture, and Structure).

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed electrical designs and drawings using AutoCAD/Revit (Lighting layouts, Power distribution, Earthing, Cable routing, etc.).
• Develop load calculations, cable sizing, voltage drop & short-circuit analysis.
• Prepare and review BOQ for electrical systems (Cabling, Panels, Lighting, ELV, UPS, Fire Alarm, etc.).
• Ensure BOQ quantities are accurate and align with design drawings.
• Coordinate with procurement & QS teams for material take-offs and cost estimation.
• Ensure compliance with national and international standards (IS, NEC, IEC, BS, IEEE).
• Collaborate with other disciplines (HVAC, Plumbing, Civil, Structural) for clash-free designs.
• Conduct design reviews, value engineering, and optimization of electrical systems.
• Provide technical support during tendering, procurement, installation, and commissioning stages.
• Review shop drawings, submittals, and vendor documents.
• Assist in preparing project reports, specifications, and documentation.

Qualifications & Skills

• Bachelor’s degree / Diploma in Electrical Engineering.
• 3–7 years of experience in MEP Electrical Design and BOQ preparation.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit (MEP), Dialux, ETAP, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems: LV, ELV, Lighting, Earthing, Fire Alarm, UPS, and DG.
• Experience in BOQ, estimation, and tender documentation.
• Good knowledge of relevant codes & standards (NEC, IEC, IS, IEEE, ASHRAE).
• Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently and in multidisciplinary teams.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹40,000.00 per month

Ability to commute/relocate:

• Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Required)
