Job Summary: The Medical Transcriptionist in the Radiology Department is responsible for accurately transcribing dictated radiology reports, ensuring high standards of quality, accuracy, and confidentiality. The role requires strong knowledge of radiological terminology, keen attention to detail, and the ability to meet turnaround times while maintaining patient data integrity. Key Responsibilities: Transcribe dictated reports from radiologists, including X-rays, CT scans, MRI, ultrasound, and other imaging procedures. Edit, format, and proofread reports for grammatical accuracy, consistency, and completeness. Ensure timely completion and submission of all transcribed reports. Maintain confidentiality of all patient and hospital information in compliance with HIPAA and institutional policies. Verify patient identification details, study types, and referring physician information before finalizing reports. Communicate effectively with radiologists and support staff to clarify dictation or report details when necessary. Maintain records of transcribed documents and manage report storage systems (digital or paper). Identify discrepancies or errors in dictations and report them for correction. Assist in improving transcription processes and documentation workflow within the department. Stay updated with medical terminology, radiology procedures, and transcription software tools. Qualifications & Requirements: Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Transcription, Life Sciences, or related field. Experience: Minimum 1–2 years of experience as a Medical Transcriptionist, preferably in Radiology. Skills: Excellent command of English language, grammar, and medical terminology. Familiarity with radiology-specific terms and procedures. Strong typing speed (minimum 60 wpm) with high accuracy. Proficiency in transcription software and Microsoft Office applications. Strong attention to detail and time management skills. Ability to maintain confidentiality and work under minimal supervision. Working Conditions: Based in the Radiology Department or Transcription Unit. May involve shift work based on report load. Requires prolonged periods of sitting and computer use.
