As a Shift Manager in the shipping industry, your role involves overseeing ship working operations to ensure targets and deadlines are met. You will be responsible for managing day-to-day operations, coordinating shifts, and leading the workforce to achieve operational goals. Your key responsibilities will include: - Monitoring ship working operations to ensure targets and deadlines are met, including berthing and un-berthing timelines. - Managing vessel loading and discharge in adherence to provided targets. - Planning and coordinating shifts according to terminal requirements. - Taking over from the previous Shift Manager at the start of each shift, assessing ships, manpower, and addressing any breakdown issues. - Liaising with the maintenance department to maximize equipment availability. - Managing emergencies, including injuries, contractors, and work-related issues. - Allocating job responsibilities based on work requirements and reallocating as needed. - Liaising with rostering staff to ensure labor availability meets operational demands. - Achieving optimum productivity levels and service reliability for customers. - Conducting trend analysis of operational parameters and introducing improved operating procedures. - Ensuring correct and safe working practices in the terminal. Qualifications & Competencies required for this role include: - Minimum three years of supervisory experience in similar container terminal operations or ten years of supervisory experience in shipping. - Understanding of equipment and machinery functionality. - Knowledge of expenditure, revenue, and costing structures. - Awareness of health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures. - Strong customer/client relation skills. - Computer literacy/keyboard skills, including familiarity with terminal control and planning systems. - Effective communication, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills. - Ability to coordinate activities, monitor performance, and adjust as necessary. - Strong planning and organizational skills.
