Mainframe Storage Administrator

About The Opportunity

Role & Responsibilities

• Administer and operate mainframe storage services on z/OS: manage DFSMS, DFSMShsm and DFSMSdss components to ensure reliable dataset and tape lifecycle management.
• Provision and manage DASD volumes, SMS classes, storage pools and dataset attributes; perform dataset allocation, IDCAMS catalog operations and dataset migration activities.
• Coordinate LUN provisioning, zoning and connectivity with SAN/storage teams for IBM DS8000 and enterprise arrays via FICON; validate connectivity and resolve I/O issues.
• Execute backup, restore and tape management operations; maintain HSM policies, runbooks and perform DR restores and recovery testing.
• Monitor capacity and performance, perform root-cause analysis on storage incidents, and implement tuning or corrective actions to meet SLAs.
• Automate routine tasks and change implementations using available scripting tools (REXX/CLIST/shell) and contribute to operational runbooks and change-control processes.
  

Skills & Qualifications

• Proven hands-on experience administering z/OS storage subsystems (DFSMS, DFSMShsm, DFSMSdss).
• Operational expertise with JCL and IDCAMS for dataset and catalog management.
• Experience provisioning and managing DASD, SMS classes and tape management in production mainframe environments.
• Strong troubleshooting experience for I/O, dataset availability and performance incidents.
• Familiarity with enterprise storage connectivity using FICON and collaboration with SAN teams for LUN provisioning.
• Comfort working on-site in a 24x7 operations model and following ITIL/change-management processes.
  

Preferred

• Experience with IBM DS8000 or similar enterprise mainframe storage arrays.
• Knowledge of IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM) integrations for z/OS.
• Prior exposure to SAN administration and enterprise array platforms (EMC/VMAX, Hitachi).
