About the Role

Mainframe IMS System Programmer


Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Strong experience in IMS System Programming on z/OS (IMS DB & TM).
  • Hands-on knowledge of SMP/E, JCL, and REXX.
  • Expertise in IMS system definitions (PSBs, DBDs, MODBLKS, exits).
  • IMS performance tuning, buffer management & logging expertise.
  • Familiarity with IMS utilities (DFSMU, DB Recovery, DB Reorg).
  • Strong problem-solving, debugging, and analytical skills.
  • Good knowledge of automation tools and ITIL processes.


Key Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, and upgrade IMS subsystems (IMS DB & IMS TM).
  • Apply maintenance fixes, PTFs, APARs using SMP/E.
  • Troubleshoot IMS failures, abends, and performance issues.
  • Manage IMS system definitions and integrations with CICS, DB2, MQ.
  • Tune IMS buffer pools, logs, and regions for optimal performance.
  • Support IMS DB (Full Function & Fast Path) and ensure high availability.
  • Implement IMS security with RACF/ACF2/TSS and maintain compliance.
  • Develop backup/recovery strategies and participate in DR planning.
  • Collaborate with DBAs, application teams, and operations staff.
