We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and highly organized colleague to contribute to the growth of our hybrid sound science journals, SN Social Sciences & SN Business and Economics. The locum Senior Editor oversees the development of both journals and communicates with the Editorial Board to ensure editorial rigour and high levels of author service. They act as the ambassador for the journals through engagement with the global research communities, and enhance the journals reach, standing and reputation.
The ideal candidate is passionate about development in the HSS and scholarly publishing, and is comfortable working on process-driven tasks. Together with the Executive Publisher, the locum Senior Editor will shape the editorial strategy and work on the journals development activities.
Key responsibilities include

Preparing strategic plans for the development of the journals, in collaboration with the internal Editorial and Publishing colleagues.

Supervision of the internal journal team.

Developing and leading the external Editorial Board.

Acting as a key voice representing the journals within the internal editorial and external research communities.

Overseeing the investigation and resolution of research integrity issues.

Understanding and championing the needs of authors and reviewers, ensuring that excellent author service is provided, in particular with respect to manuscript handling items.

The implementation of new policies, workflows, systems, and processes.

Building relationships with our Editorial Board and the wider research community.
Job requirements

Masters in social sciences and/or business & economics.

Significant experience in a manuscript-handling editorial role within the social sciences and business and economics landscape.

A thorough understanding of the publishing landscape, including detailed knowledge of open access publishing and inclusive editorial models.

Thorough understanding of the needs of authors and referees as key customers.
