Lead Engineer Boiler Equipment Engineer (OEMs Engineer Role)

Job Purpose

Equipment Engineering for Boilers will be responsible for producing engineering and design deliverables essential for the execution of new supercritical two-pass boiler projects and proposals. This role ensures conformances to codes, standards, and work instructions while interfacing with other engineering disciplines, field operations and site teams. The individual will be responsible for basic & detail engineering activities for mechanical bought out equipment like fans, air preheaters, coal feeders, soot blowers, valves, pumps, compressed air system for execution of new supercritical boiler projects

Key Responsibilities

Specification review

• Review and understand specifications (tender requirement), identify critical points that can pose risk to project quality, delivery cost and creates a detailed clarifications & deviation list.
• Preparation & review of the technical specification for bought-out equipment like fans, air preheaters, coal feeders, soot blowers, valves, pumps, compressed air system etc..
• Review & perform technical evaluation of the vendor offers, issue technical clearance for order placement.

Compliance & Safety:

• Provide technical support and coordination during manufacturing, fabrication, equipment inspection & erection stages.
• Perform valve schedule extraction from P&ID software and finalize the valve schedule
• Accountable for quality reviews, control & checking for deliverables under his / her responsibility on the project
• Performing design reviews and quality checks to ensure adherence to standards

  & codes mentioned in the contract.

Collaboration & Support:

• Ensure on-time delivery, right first-time, first-time yield, direct material productivity for the projects being handled.
• Responsible to execute the activities within the project schedule / milestones and the budgeted man-hours.
• Working with other section (Process, Layout, Structure, Fuel System, Ducting & C&I) engineers, designers, and project managers throughout the design and construction process.
• Assist project management in technical discussions with all stakeholders including customers
• Drive continuous improvement and deployment of working procedures, best practices and projects feedback.

Documentation & Reporting:

• Ensures standardization of specification, calculation templates and development of database.

• Ensure implementation of lessons learned from previous projects
• Participate in design review and design freeze meeting and ensure the corrective actions defined by the deign review are closed on time
• Ensure maintaining design calculations, drawings, and other technical documentation required for code compliance.
• Ensure of quality of reports on design performance, material selection.
• Participate in HAZOP/safety reviews, layout review meetings, and technical clarifications with Manufacturers and other equipment OEMs.
• Enable approval system-level documentation including P&IDs, equipment datasheets, GA drawings, system descriptions, and logic diagrams.

Documenting design changes and modifications.

• Communicate project status, schedules, upcoming deliverable and technical solutions between various teams. Method of communications to include, but not limited to, model reviews, design review, construct ability & accessibility reviews, team meetings, line of balance etc.
• Conduct model reviews, interface reviews, desktop review meetings across multiple functions internal & external customers at various intervals to ensure clash free model interface.
• Verify proper integration of auxiliary systems within Boiler.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.

Technical Skills: Strong understanding of handling equipment packages like fans, air preheaters, coal feeeders, soot blowwers, valves, pumps, compressed air system etc for boilers

Design Software: Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks) and review FEA software for stress analysis along with exposure in developing pressure part layout.

Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with equipment design codes and standards (e.g., IS, ASME Section I, or equivalent) related to mechanical static & rotary equipment with Minimum 8 years of experience in working knowledge of Boiler Process.

Working knowledge on P&ID and P&ID development software AVEVA & AutoCad

Problem-solving: Ability to diagnose and solve equipment package engineering, manufacturing and Erection issues.

Communication: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with team members.

Desired Characteristics

• Master’s degree in mechanical engineering from an accredited university college
• Proficiency in software’s / Tools like AUTOCAD, AVEVA will be an added advantage
• Knowledge & working experience in coal-based will be added advantage.
• Working knownledge of software programming / tool development using latest programming languages
• Working knowledge of Balance of Plant Equipment in a thermal power plant
• Knowledge on erection & commissioning of thermal power plant equipment
• Knowledge on applicable codes & standards for boiler design
• Effective problem identification and solution providing skills.
