Job Description

Role & responsibilities

Patient Assessment:

Conduct comprehensive assessments of patients' nutritional status, including medical history, dietary habits, lab results and anthropometric measurements.

Dietary Counseling:

Provide individualized dietary counseling and education to patients, considering their specific medical conditions, dietary preferences and cultural factors.

Nutrition Care Plans:

Develop and implement nutrition care plans that address the nutritional needs and dietary restrictions of patients, taking into account medical conditions, allergies and special diets.

Monitoring and Follow-Up:

Monitor patients' progress and make necessary adjustments to their nutrition plans, tracking changes in weight, lab values and clinical symptoms.

Enteral and Parenteral Nutrition:

Administer and manage enteral (tube) feeding and parenteral (intravenous) nutrition support as needed and monitor patients for complications.

Collaboration:

Collaborate with physicians, nurses and other healthcare professionals to integrate nutrition care into overall patient treatment plans.

Nutrition Education:

Conduct educational sessions for patients and their families, providing information on the importance of proper nutrition and adherence to dietary recommendations.

Dietary Planning:

Plan and oversee hospital menus to ensure that they meet patients' dietary requirements and regulatory standards.

Quality Improvement:

Participate in quality improvement initiatives related to nutrition care, including monitoring compliance with nutritional guidelines and assessing patient outcomes.

Record Keeping:

Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including nutritional assessments, care plans and progress notes.

Regulatory Compliance:

Adhere to hospital policies, procedures and regulatory standards, including those related to patient safety and privacy.

Nutritional Support:

Provide nutrition support for patients with various conditions, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, gastrointestinal disorders and malnutrition.

Research and Continuing Education:

Stay updated on the latest nutritional research, trends and guidelines and participate in ongoing professional development.

Required Skill Sets:

1. Strong knowledge of medical nutrition therapy and clinical nutrition guidelines.

2. Excellent communication skills for effective patient counseling and teamwork.

3. Empathy and interpersonal skills to build trust and rapport with patients.

4. Knowledge of electronic health record (EHR) systems and nutrition assessment tools.

Compulsory Qualification: B.Sc. (Foods & Nutrition/ Dietetics/ Home Science/ Food Technology)/ M.Sc. (Foods & Nutrition/ Dietetics/Food Technology)/ Post Graduate Diploma in Foods & Nutrition/ Dietetics/ Food Technology

Preferred Qualification: M.Sc. (Foods & Nutrition/ Dietetics/Food Technology)/ Post Graduate Diploma in Foods & Nutrition/ Dietetics/ Food Technology
