Je functie Bijna dagelijks worden nieuwe stoffen toegepast in producten voor de consumptie of industriële processen. Denk hierbij aan medicijnen, shampoos, bestrijdingsmiddelen, halffabricaten of toeslagstoffen die producten specifieke eigenschappen geven (bv waterafstotend maken). De stoffen komen op deze wijze in het afvalwater terecht en/of via luchtemissies of op andere manieren in ons milieu. Van sommige stoffen weten we dat ze voor ons of voor het milieu schadelijk zijn. Wat we niet goed weten is op welke manier we hiermee om moeten gaan. Wat doen we als we deze ‘nieuwe’ stoffen tegenkomen in de bodem of het (grond)water? Of wat kunnen wij doen als we nieuwe inzichten krijgen en van bestaande als toegepaste stoffen, constateren dat deze meer schadelijk zijn dan vooraf gedacht? Afgelopen jaar is de hierboven geschetste problematiek diverse keren in het nieuws geweest, bijvoorbeeld als PFOA en GenX in de regio Drechtsteden of als Fipronil in eieren of Chroom-6 in verf. Deze stoffen zijn toegepast en door het gebruik of door productieprocessen, afvalwater of luchtdepositie in het milieu terecht zijn gekomen. Maatschappelijk is grote behoefte aan duidelijke en praktische kaders hoe hiermee om te gaan. Bedrijven, het Rijk en de regionale en lokale overheden (zoals provincies, gemeenten en waterschappen) willen graag geholpen worden bij dit vraagstuk. Witteveen+Bos helpt deze partijen met het bedenken en uitwerken van oplossingen. Hierbij kan je denken aan het uitwerken en evalueren van het vergunningsproces voor bedrijven die werken met schadelijke stoffen. Maar ook kan je aan de hand van een uitgevoerd project of opgelost probleem processen evalueren en aanbevelingen voorstellen; Afstudeerstage gericht op een specifieke vraag of onderwerp, waarbij je ook de kans krijgt mee te werken in een project als projectingenieur. In dit project lever jij een bijdrage aan onze adviesdiensten. Je gaat aan de slag met een onderzoeken uitvoeren, bijvoorbeeld naar de herkomst en effecten vaan een opkomende stof.
