Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed clinical assessments of ICU admissions and formulate management plans.
  • Manage ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring, and organ support therapies.
  • Perform ICU procedures including intubation, central line insertion, arterial line, bedside ultrasonography, and other advanced interventions.
  • Manage sepsis, shock, respiratory failure, cardiac emergencies, renal failure, and trauma cases.
  • Provide post-operative ICU management for high-risk surgical patients.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary rounds with surgeons, physicians, anaesthetists, and nursing teams.

Emergency & On-Call Duties

  • Provide critical care support for emergencies including code blue, trauma, poisoning, cardiac arrest, and unstable patients in ER and wards.
  • Guide initial stabilization and transfer of critical patients.
  • Participate in on-call rotations as per hospital schedule.

Patient & Family Communication

  • Communicate diagnosis, treatment plans, prognosis, and procedures clearly to patient families.
  • Participate in family counselling, end-of-life decision-making, and ethical discussions.
  • Maintain accurate, transparent documentation and consent processes.

ICU Operations & Administrative Roles

  • Ensure adherence to ICU protocols, infection control standards, and NABH requirements.
  • Review and update ICU policies, checklist compliance, and quality indicators.
  • Collaborate with the nursing and respiratory teams to optimize care delivery.
  • Participate in morbidity–mortality meetings, internal audits, and clinical governance.

Training & Team Leadership

  • Supervise and guide junior doctors, residents, nurses, respiratory therapists, and technicians.
  • Conduct training sessions, simulations, and CME programs for ICU staff.
  • Encourage evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Experience

  • MBBS + MD / DNB / DM in Critical Care Medicine, Anaesthesiology, Emergency Medicine, or Pulmonary Medicine.
  • Fellowship in Critical Care (IDCCM / IFCCM / FNB Critical Care) preferred.
  • Tamil Nadu Medical Council registration is mandatory.
  • Minimum 2–5 years of ICU experience in a multispeciality or tertiary care hospital (modifiable as needed).

Working Conditions

  • Duties include day shifts, night shifts, and emergency on-call responsibilities.
  • Work involves high-stress, fast-paced decision-making in critical situations.
  • Must be available for immediate response to ICU emergencies.

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Pay: ₹100,000.00 - ₹150,000.00 per month
