Description

The HVAC Technician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVAC/R) systems throughout Lagoon Amusement Park. This includes work on rooftop units, split systems, exhaust and supply fans, ice machines, refrigeration units, and related control systems. The Technician ensures all systems operate safely, efficiently, and in accordance with manufacturer specifications, applicable codes, and Company policies and procedures. This position plays a key role in maintaining a comfortable and safe environment for guests and employees across all park facilities, food service locations, attractions, and employee housing.

Essential Functions Of The Job

  • Install, maintain, and repair HVAC and refrigeration systems including compressors, evaporators, condensers, coils, motors, controls, and thermostats.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoot issues with electrical, mechanical, and control components of HVAC systems. Perform preventive maintenance on all equipment, including filter changes, lubrication, cleaning, and component inspections.
  • Inspect and calibrate thermostats, pressure switches, relays, and control circuits to ensure optimal system performance. Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematics, and service manuals.
  • Recover, evacuate, and recharge refrigerants in accordance with EPA regulations.
  • Fabricate, install, and repair sheet metal ductwork and copper refrigerant lines as needed.
  • Maintain accurate service records and log maintenance data in accordance with department procedures.
  • Utilize a variety of tools, gauges, and testing instruments safely and effectively. Communicate clearly with supervisors, contractors, and other maintenance personnel to coordinate projects and repairs.
  • Respond to emergency calls for HVAC or refrigeration issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work area and ensure all safety protocols and lockout/tagout procedures are followed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support maintenance and facility operations across Lagoon properties.

Requirements

Required Qualifications/Abilities

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Must possess a valid Utah driver’s license or have the ability to obtain one.
  • Technical or trade school certification in HVAC preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in commercial or industrial HVAC installation, service, or maintenance preferred.
  • Proficient in reading and interpreting electrical diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals.
  • Strong understanding of refrigeration cycles, air flow principles, and HVAC controls.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks with limited supervision.
  • Must be dependable, safety-conscious, and possess strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours and a variable schedule, including early mornings, weekends, evenings, and holidays. Shifts begin as early as 6:00 a.m. and others may end as late as midnight.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces, rooftops, and indoor/outdoor environments.

Working Conditions

  • This position requires working in an environment that includes exposure to high noise levels, bright light or darkened areas, large crowds and other factors typical to an amusement park setting.
  • This position will perform essential job duties outdoors and be exposed to environmental elements including, but not limited to, extreme heat or cold, wind, dust, noise, rain, snow, and direct sunlight.
  • Physical Requirements
  • The physical demands described below must be met to successfully perform the essential job responsibilities.
  • Must be able to use fingers, hands, arms, and legs to reach, operate equipment, climb stairs, evacuate guests from lifts, perform routine safety checks, and use hands to handle or feel.
  • Able to sit, stand, walk (at a specified pace), crouch, crawl, kneel, reach above the head or stoop for the duration of a shift up to eight (8) hours
  • Able to regularly lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds and up to one hundred (100) pounds assisted
  • Able to move equipment which would include pushing, pulling, bending, and lifting
  • Able to walk quickly to and from job locations up to one (1) mile distance.
  • Must have sufficient hearing and visual acuity to observe equipment, Lagoon guests, etc.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
  • Must be physically able to climb and work at significant heights, including on ladders, platforms, and ride structures up to 100 feet.
