Position Title: Housekeeping Staff / Hospital Housekeeper Department: Housekeeping & Environmental Services Reports To: Housekeeping Supervisor / Facility Manager Location: Hospital Premises 1. POSITION SUMMARY The Housekeeping Staff is responsible for maintaining a clean, infection-free, safe, and patient-friendly hospital environment. The role includes strict adherence to infection control protocols, biomedical waste rules, sanitation standards (NABH/JCI), and hospital safety guidelines to ensure patient safety and operational hygiene. 2. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: A. Cleaning & SanitizationPerform routine cleaning of all hospital areas (OPD, IPD, ICU, OT corridors, wards, Emergency, Waiting Areas). Carry out high-touch surface disinfection (bed rails, door handles, switches, nurse stations). Use hospital-approved disinfectants and materials as per Infection Control Committee (ICC) guidelines. Conduct deep cleaning in isolation rooms, procedure areas, and critical care units as per SOPs. B. Infection Control & Hygiene ProtocolsFollow Standard Precautions, Hand Hygiene practices, and PPE use. Clean spills (blood/body fluids) using Spill Management Protocol and disinfectants (e.g., 1% Hypochlorite). Prevent cross-contamination by using color-coded mops, buckets, and cleaning tools. C. Biomedical Waste (BMW) ManagementSegregate waste into color-coded bins: Yellow, Red, Blue, White, Black. Transport waste safely to the Temporary Storage Room as per BMW Rules 2016. Never mix infectious and non-infectious waste. D. Patient & Staff SupportMaintain patient room hygiene including bed making, linen changing, and cleaning patient areas. Assist nursing staff with basic non-clinical tasks (moving items, replenishing supplies, etc.). Ensure clean and adequate supply of toiletries, sanitizers, tissues, and consumables. E. Equipment & Material ManagementOperate hospital housekeeping equipment: scrubbers, vacuum cleaners, mops, trolleys. Ensure proper dilution of disinfectants and usage of cleaning chemicals. Report equipment malfunction or shortage of materials to the supervisor. F. Compliance & SafetyFollow NABH/JCI housekeeping standards and hospital SOPs. Participate in Fire Safety, Mock Drills, and training sessions. Report hazards and near-miss incidents to the safety officer. 3. TECHNICAL SKILLS REQUIREDKnowledge of hospital-grade disinfectants and their dilution ratios. Understanding of Infection Control & BMW segregation rules. Spill management and deep cleaning techniques. Operation of mechanized cleaning equipment. Basic safety and PPE usage. 4. BEHAVIORAL SKILLSEmpathy and polite behavior toward patients and visitors. Attention to cleanliness detail and discipline. Ability to follow instructions and SOPs. Good communication and teamwork with nursing and clinical staff. 5. QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCEMinimum 8th–10th pass (flexible based on hospital policy). Experience in hospital housekeeping preferred; training will be provided. Knowledge of infection control is an advantage. 6. SHIFT & WORKING CONDITIONSRotational shifts (Morning/Evening/Night). Frequent walking, bending, and use of cleaning equipment. Exposure to clinical environment and biological materials (managed with PPE). 7. KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS (KPIs)Cleanliness scores based on supervisor/NABH audits. Zero deviation in BMW segregation. Patient and staff feedback. Compliance with infection control protocols. Attendance and punctuality.
