Hospital Counsellor

Key Responsibilities:1. Patient Counseling and Support

• Provide pre- and post-operative counseling to patients undergoing eye surgeries (e.g., cataract, LASIK, retina, glaucoma).
• Explain diagnosis, treatment options, procedures, and expected outcomes in simple, empathetic language.
• Offer emotional and psychological support to patients dealing with vision loss or chronic eye diseases.
• Encourage patients to adhere to prescribed treatments and follow-up schedules.

2. Communication and Coordination

• Liaise between doctors, patients, and their families to ensure clarity of medical information.
• Coordinate with nursing, billing, and administrative staff to facilitate smooth patient flow.
• Handle patient queries regarding surgery dates, procedures, and recovery.

3. Education and Awareness

• Educate patients and caregivers on preventive eye care, medication use, and lifestyle modifications.
• Assist in organizing eye health awareness programs, patient education camps, and community outreach initiatives.

4. Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate counseling records and patient consent forms.
• Prepare daily/weekly counseling reports for management review.
• Follow up with patients who postpone or cancel surgeries to understand concerns and offer assistance.

5. Ethical and Professional Conduct

• Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies.
• Demonstrate empathy, patience, and professionalism in all interactions.

Qualifications and Experience:

• Education:
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Healthcare Management, or a related field.
• Additional training in patient counseling or healthcare communication preferred.
• Experience:
• 1–3 years of experience in hospital counseling or healthcare coordination, preferably in ophthalmology or specialty clinics.
• Skills:
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong empathy and emotional intelligence.
• Ability to explain complex medical information in patient-friendly language.
• Proficiency in hospital management systems and MS Office.
