HOD- Beneficiation + Mining - Technical Services

The Head of Department Beneficiation (Technical Services) will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the end-to-end operations of mining and beneficiation processes that support DRI production. The role will lead the technical evaluation, process optimization, mine planning, raw material quality control, and operational excellence across the mining value chain. The position requires a highly skilled technical leader with hands-on experience in beneficiation and mining operations, preferably in iron ore or similar minerals.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic & Operational Leadership

• Lead and manage technical operations related to mining, crushing, screening, and beneficiation processes.
  
• Align beneficiation operations with the raw material requirements of the DRI plant.
  
• Develop and implement strategic plans for sustainable ore sourcing and beneficiation efficiency.
  
• Drive cost optimization and operational efficiency through continuous process improvements.
  

Technical Services & Process Optimization

• Monitor and enhance beneficiation process performance (e.g., jigging, magnetic separation, flotation, etc.).
  
• Conduct mineralogical and metallurgical evaluations to optimize recovery and product quality.
  
• Ensure optimal utilization of plant capacity and resources.
  
• Collaborate with the plant and procurement teams to meet DRI feedstock quality targets.
  

Mine Development & Resource Management

• Supervise geological exploration, reserve estimation, and mine planning activities.
  
• Work with external consultants and government bodies for mine lease compliance and development.
  
• Plan and execute short-term and long-term mining schedules.
  
• Ensure effective haulage, logistics, and stockyard management.
  

Quality, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to quality standards, health & safety protocols, and environmental regulations.
  
• Monitor compliance with Nigerian mining laws and sustainability practices.
  
• Oversee laboratory and quality control teams for real-time monitoring and corrective actions.
  

Team Leadership & Stakeholder Management

• Build and lead a multidisciplinary technical team including mining engineers, metallurgists, geologists, and process engineers.
  
• Liaise with government agencies, technical consultants, and internal stakeholders.
  
• Provide regular technical updates and performance reports to senior management.
  

Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering, Mineral Processing, Metallurgy, or related field (Master’s degree preferred).
  
• Minimum 15 years of experience in mining and beneficiation, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
  
• Strong experience with beneficiation of iron ore (preferably hematite/goethite), jigging, magnetic separation, or similar technologies.
  
• Hands-on experience in managing technical services for integrated steel or DRI plants is highly desirable.
  
• Exposure to African mining operations, particularly in Nigeria or West Africa, is an advantage.
