Job Description

Position Title: Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Officer Department: Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Reports To: Maintenance HOD Job Overview: The Safety Officer is responsible for ensuring that the workplace meets all legal safety standards and actively works to minimize occupational risks. This role involves conducting regular inspections, enforcing policies, and educating employees on safe practices to promote a culture of safety within the organization. Key Responsibilities: Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal rules and regulations. Conduct risk assessments and enforce preventative measures. Inspect equipment and work areas to ensure safety compliance. Investigate accidents or incidents to discover causes and recommend solutions. Prepare reports on occurrences and provide statistical analysis of incidents. Conduct safety training and education sessions for employees. Support the development of health and safety strategies, including site-specific plans and emergency response procedures. Collaborate with managers to monitor compliance and identify safety concerns. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of new health and safety regulations and best practices. Ensure all personnel are equipped with appropriate PPE (personal protective equipment). Lead toolbox talks, safety meetings, and emergency drills. Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, or a related field (preferred). Certification such as NEBOSH, OSHA, or equivalent is highly desirable. Proven experience as a Safety Officer or similar role (typically 2+ years). Strong understanding of legal health and safety guidelines. Knowledge of potentially hazardous materials or practices. Excellent attention to detail and observation ability. Good communication and instructional skills. Skills Required: Risk assessment and hazard identification Incident investigation and reporting Strong organizational and time management skills Problem-solving and decision-making abilities Training and coaching skills Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Working Conditions: travel required between sites.
