roadmap.

Define equipment layout, machinery selection, and workflow for tool manufacturing and maintenance (CNC,

EDM, Wire Cut, Milling, Grinding, etc.).

Evaluate and procure tool room machinery, CAD/CAM systems, and measuring instruments.

Develop processes, SOPs, and infrastructure for high-precision tool manufacturing and preventive maintenance.

Establish vendor ecosystem for specialized tooling and overflow work.

metallic parts; Assembly jigs, fixtures, and gauges for precision fitment and testing.

Collaborate with product design and R&D teams to ensure manufacturability and dimensional accuracy.

Approve tool designs, materials, and manufacturing processes.

Ensure tools are optimized for cycle time, cooling efficiency, and durability.

Tool Maintenance & Lifecycle Management

Implement and monitor a preventive maintenance program for all tools, molds, dies, and fixtures.

Ensure minimum tool downtime through proactive repair and refurbishment.

Maintain detailed tool history and life tracking for every tool.

Oversee inventory of spare parts and consumables. Production & NPD Support

Support trials, validations, and first article inspections (FAI).

Vendor Development & Cost Optimization

Identify, qualify, and develop tool vendors and suppliers for external fabrication.

Negotiate and manage tool manufacturing contracts and ensure quality compliance.

Drive cost reduction initiatives through design optimization, tool standardization, and life extension.

Quality, Compliance & Documentation

Ensure tooling design and fabrication meet ISO/IATF, BIS, and internal quality standards.

Maintain comprehensive documentation:

Tool drawings, CAD data, revision logs, PM records, calibration reports.

Support internal and external audits (ISO/Customer) related to tooling and production readiness.

Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement

Lead and mentor a team of tool designers, machinists, and tool makers.

Foster a culture of precision, accountability, and continuous improvement.

Implement Lean, 5S, TPM, and Kaizen practices in the tool room.

Monitor performance metrics: MTBF, MTTR, downtime, tool life, and cost efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience

Education: B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical / Tool Engineering / Production Engineering; OR

CAD/CAM certification preferred.

15–20 years in tool design, tool room operations, and maintenance.

At least 5 years in a leadership role handling injection molds, press tools, and precision fixtures.

Experience in electronic / electrical / automotive component manufacturing preferred.

Tool design software: AutoCAD, SolidWorks, NX, CATIA, or equivalent.

Hands-on with CNC, EDM, Wire-Cut, Milling, Grinding, Turning.

Knowledge of mold steels, heat treatment, and tool life management.
