Department: Fabrication / Finishing / Pre-Welding Operations Location: On-Site (Chennai / Visakhapatnam / Bhubaneswar / Project Sites) Employment Type: Full-Time / Project-Based / Contractual Reporting To: Fabrication Supervisor / Site Engineer About The Company Mr. Garaz Technologies Private Limited is a multidisciplinary engineering and mobility solutions company with strategic expertise in transportation, fleet maintenance, infrastructure repair, and mechanical manufacturing. As part of our expansion into maritime engineering , we are executing turnkey projects involving shipbuilding , dry dock repairs , and floating dock (wet dock) maintenance for both defense and commercial marine vessels. Position Summary We are looking for skilled and safety-conscious Grinders to support pre-welding, post-welding, and finishing processes for hull blocks, railway wagons, vehicle chassis, and large mechanical components. The Grinder will be responsible for preparing surfaces, removing excess welds, and ensuring proper finish for painting, fitment, and inspection Key Responsibilities Operate angle grinders, pneumatic tools, cutting wheels, and sanders to smooth and shape metal surfaces Perform surface preparation before welding by cleaning joints and removing scale or rust Conduct post-welding grinding to remove slag, weld beads, spatter, and sharp edges Shape or finish fabricated parts to meet dimensional tolerances or aesthetic standards Perform beveling, chamfering, and edge rounding where required for welding or assembly Assist in fit-up and fabrication activities by preparing material edges Inspect surfaces and finishes visually and dimensionally for defects or irregularities Maintain and change grinding wheels and abrasives as needed Follow safety procedures, including using PPE (face shields, gloves, ear plugs, aprons) and handling flammable dust appropriately Keep tools, work area, and materials clean and organized Support welders, fitters, and QC teams as part of the production flow Qualifications & Requirements Education: 8th Pass / 10th Pass ITI in Fitter, Fabrication, or related trade (preferred but not mandatory) Experience: 1–4 years of experience as a grinder in shipbuilding, rail coach/wagon factories, heavy engineering, or steel fabrication workshops Technical Skills: Ability to handle 5"/7"/9" angle grinders, pneumatic belt sanders, and die grinders Knowledge of abrasive types (flap disc, grinding wheel, sanding disc, etc.) Familiarity with steel grades (MS, SS, marine-grade steels) Understanding of safety practices related to sparks, vibration, and hot work Physical & Soft Skills Physically fit to stand, bend, and work in confined or elevated positions for long hours Strong attention to detail and consistency in finish quality Ability to follow verbal instructions and drawing indications Team player and punctual with a strong work ethic Willingness to work in multiple shifts and on urgent project requirements Preferred Experience Experience working in shipyards, wagon depots, boiler plants, pressure vessel units, or marine fabrication yards Exposure to surface preparation for painting, blasting, or NDT inspections Familiarity with ISO, IRS, or LRS fabrication quality standards Compensation & Benefits Competitive wages based on skill level and output Overtime and productivity incentives for high-performing workers Lodging/boarding support for outstation contract workers Company-issued PPE and tool kits Growth paths into positions like Grinder Lead, Fabrication Assistant, or Welder Helper Why Join Mr. Garaz?
