About the Role:

• Crystal is building a national platform for

  modular, portable reefer containers

  —plug-and-play cold chain infrastructure for pharma, food, and high-value perishables. We're looking for a

  GM – Operations & Service

  to lead all backend functions:

  deployment, service, compliance, and technical reliability

  .
• This is not a generalist role. You must come with

  deep technical and operational experience

  in cold chain systems — including

  refrigeration units (Thermo King, Carrier, Daikin, etc.), containerized cold rooms, AMC planning, cold chain QA, and GDP compliance

  .

Core Responsibilities:

FunctionWhat You’ll Drive

1. Fleet Operations

Own deployment, relocation, and lifecycle management of refrigerated containers across India.

2. Refrigeration Service & Uptime

Lead preventive and breakdown maintenance for all refrigeration units. Maintain >95% uptime.

3. Technical SOPs & Troubleshooting

Standardize protocols for start-up, shut-down, defrost cycles, compressor faults, etc. Train field teams.

4. AMC & Vendor Management

Build and manage national service partner network. Negotiate AMC contracts, SLAs, and parts procurement.

5. Compliance & Cold Chain QA

Ensure GDP, HACCP, and temperature logging compliance across all active units. Audit readiness is key.

6. Cost & P&L Control

Optimize cost per deployment, service cost per unit, and asset utilization. Report monthly ops P&L.

7. Team Building

Hire, train, and lead service engineers, technicians, and site ops managers.

KPIs to Own:

• Container deployment TAT (from order to live unit)
• Fleet uptime & temperature compliance rate
• Cost per service ticket / per unit deployed
• AMC SLA adherence & technician response time
• Audit success rate (internal & external, GDP/HACCP)
• Ops P&L (within budget, high asset utilization)

Ideal Profile:

Must-Have Experience:

• 12–18 years in cold chain / reefer container / industrial refrigeration ops
• Hands-on understanding of:
• Compressor types (scroll, reciprocating, etc.)
• Refrigerants (R404a, R134a, etc.)
• Reefer container tech (Thermo King / Carrier units)
• PUF insulation, container fabrication basics
• Led multi-city deployment and servicing of cold storage units or reefers
• Built and managed 3rd-party service networks and internal tech teams

Education:

• Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Refrigeration, or equivalent
• Certifications in GDP, HACCP, or Cold Chain Compliance (preferred)

Personality Fit:

• Obsessive about uptime and reliability
• Operationally intense, but technically grounded
• Doesn’t panic in crisis; knows how to fix, swap, or escalate fast
• Clear communicator with field and boardroom fluency
