Job Description

General Manager Electrical & Instrumentation Maintenance

Key Responsibilities:

1. Breakdown Maintenance

  • Ensure adherence to

    MTTR (Mean Time To Repair)

    and

    MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures)

    targets for all plant equipment.
  • Conduct

    breakdown analysis

    , identify root causes, and implement corrective actions for all electrical and instrumentation-related failures.
  • Plan and execute

    electrical utility maintenance

    activities, including

    AMC management

    and

    spare parts planning

    , on a monthly basis with daily review and execution monitoring.
  • Review

    daily log sheets

    and key performance parameters such as equipment uptime, downtime, and equipment health. Take corrective measures for any deviations.
  • Regularly verify and update

    operator check sheets

    , review pending points from previous inspections, and ensure closure of all action items.
  • Conduct

    field inspections (Gemba walks)

    to assess machine conditions, electrical panel status, and ensure operational readiness.
  • Oversee

    repair and replacement of parts

    , assess reparability, and prepare justifications for replacements when required.

2. Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

  • Develop and implement

    preventive maintenance (PM)

    and

    predictive maintenance

    plans to achieve zero breakdowns and maximize uptime.
  • Ensure adherence to PM schedules, maintain

    history cards, checklists

    , and perform

    breakdown trend analysis

    to predict potential failures.
  • Review completion of PM activities, address pending points, and ensure timely closure.
  • Schedule and coordinate

    periodic maintenance activities

    , ensuring timely availability of equipment and manpower.
  • Ensure

    spare parts availability

    for scheduled maintenance and verify equipment conditions against maintenance checklists.

3. Spare Parts Management

  • Define and periodically review the list of

    critical spares

    based on equipment addition or modifications.
  • Finalize the

    annual spare parts and consumables budget

    , maintaining optimal stock levels in stores.
  • Oversee

    purchase requisitions

    based on maintenance needs—both preventive and breakdown-related.
  • Participate in

    technical evaluations and vendor negotiations

    to ensure cost-effective and quality procurement of electrical and instrumentation spares.

4. Employee Engagement & Safety

  • Ensure

    zero lost-time accidents (LTI)

    by enforcing strict adherence to safety standards and guidelines.
  • Promote a

    safety-first culture

    , emphasizing electrical safety, lock-out/tag-out (LOTO), and energy isolation procedures.
  • Drive

    environment, health, and safety (EHS)

    initiatives across maintenance teams and ensure compliance with statutory regulations.
  • Enhance

    employee engagement

    through motivation, training, and development of technical staff.
  • Foster a

    positive and collaborative work environment

    , encouraging teamwork and accountability.

5. Manufacturing Excellence & Reliability

  • Lead performance improvements across E&I functions with respect to

    MTTR, MTBF, OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness)

    , and other critical KPIs.
  • Collaborate with

    process, mechanical, and quality teams

    to review equipment utilization, quality, and production efficiency.
  • Conduct

    downtime analysis

    to identify root causes and implement sustainable corrective actions.
  • Manage

    internal and external projects

    , ensuring timely execution, resource allocation, and compliance with quality and safety standards.
  • Coordinate with

    OEMs, third-party contractors, and calibration agencies

    for technology upgrades, automation improvements, and system calibrations.
  • Finalize and standardize

    SOPs and work procedures

    , ensuring consistent adherence across all plant sections.
  • Plan and finalize the

    annual/quarterly departmental budget

    covering spares, consumables, AMCs, third-party jobs, and manpower costs.

Education & Qualifications:

  • B.E. / B.Tech.

    in

    Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation, or Electronics & Communication Engineering

    from a recognized institution.
  • Postgraduate qualification (MBA/PGDM)

    in Operations or Industrial Management (preferred).

Experience:

  • 18-25 years

    of total experience in

    Electrical & Instrumentation maintenance

    within a

    continuous process or heavy manufacturing industry

    (e.g., Cement, Steel, Power, Chemical, or similar).
  • Proven experience managing

    large-scale plant E&I systems

    ,

    automation technologies

    , and

    maintenance teams

    .
  • Hands-on knowledge of

    PLC, DCS, SCADA, and field instrumentation systems

    .
  • Strong exposure to

    preventive and predictive maintenance practices

    ,

    energy management

    automation project execution
