Job Description

To deliver engaging and effective French language instruction for students in both the IGCSE and IBDP programmes, supporting language acquisition, intercultural understanding, and academic excellence in line with the Cambridge and IB curricula and the school’s international ethos.

Key Responsibilities:Teaching & Learning

  • Plan and deliver differentiated French language lessons at IGCSE and IBDP levels (Ab Initio/Language B).
  • Use inquiry-based, interactive, and immersive teaching strategies to enhance student engagement and language proficiency.
  • Develop learners’ reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills in accordance with curriculum standards.
  • Foster a classroom environment that encourages risk-taking, intercultural understanding, and appreciation of the Francophone world.

Assessment & Reporting

  • Design and administer assessments aligned with IGCSE and IB criteria, including formative, summative, and internal assessments.
  • Provide constructive and timely feedback to support student progress.
  • Maintain detailed records of student achievement and contribute to formal reporting processes.

Curriculum Development

  • Collaborate with colleagues to review and enhance the French curriculum across grade levels.
  • Select age-appropriate, culturally relevant materials including authentic texts, films, and media.
  • Integrate TOK (Theory of Knowledge), CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service), and global contexts into language instruction.

Pastoral & Administrative Duties

  • Support student well-being by building strong relationships and mentoring learners.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about student performance, effort, and participation.
  • Fulfil administrative responsibilities including documentation, resource planning, and exam support.

Professional Development

  • Participate actively in professional learning and IB/Cambridge training opportunities.
  • Stay updated with pedagogical best practices, assessment changes, and technological tools for language learning.

Key Requirements:Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in French.
  • B.Ed or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • IB and/or Cambridge training certifications (preferred or willingness to obtain).

Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience teaching French at the IGCSE and/or IBDP level.
  • Proven success in preparing students for external language exams.

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong subject knowledge and fluency in French.
  • Passion for language education and cultural exchange.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and classroom management skills.
  • Commitment to international education and student-centered learning.

Desirable:

  • Experience guiding IB Internal Assessments and/or Extended Essays in French.
  • Familiarity with digital language learning tools and interactive platforms.
  • Willingness to contribute to co-curricular activities or lead cultural/language clubs.
