Job Description

Job Title: Freelance Research Engineer – Photonic-Plasmonic Sensor Design. Job Purpose: To support the simulation, design optimization, and early-stage prototyping of hybrid photonic-plasmonic micro-structures for high-sensitivity sensing applications. The role involves both theoretical modeling and simulation-based validation. Required Qualification: Master's degree or higher in Photonics, Applied Physics, or related field. Strong background in optics, and EM theory. Tools to be Familiar: ANSYS Lumerical (FDTD, MODE, DEVICE) COMSOL Multiphysics Required Experience: Experience with optical simulation tools, especially ANSYS Lumerical suite. Prior involvement in nanophotonics or plasmonic device design. Understanding of hybrid structures involving photonic crystals and metal nanoparticles. Required Knowledge/Skills: Deep understanding of photonic crystals, waveguide optics, and LSPR Ability to design and simulate nanoscale structures in ANSYS Lumerical Knowledge of thermomechanical simulation principles (preferably with COMSOL) Data analysis and visualization of simulation outputs using MATLAB/Python Strong technical documentation and reporting skills Job Description: The freelancer will be responsible for modeling, simulating, and optimizing nanoscale hybrid photonic-plasmonic structures aimed at thermal sensing. Using ANSYS Lumerical , the candidate will explore and refine device configurations to achieve high Q-factors and sensitivity. Thermal behavior modeling will be conducted using COMSOL Multiphysics. The role involves parameter sweeps, performance tuning, and interpretation of results to guide design iterations. Deliverables include simulation reports, design files, and performance evaluations for integration into next-phase prototyping. Show more Show less
